He purchased the car from an estate in Arizona. RM Auctions previously sold one for $244,000 at one there auctions! As of today, this is the only documented Pace Car for sale!
This Pace Car is equipped with an unbelievable list of option that Mercury offered at the time. It is hard to believe but every single option and accessory still works as intended from the new.
Here is the amazing list of options:

As prices skyrocketed on these Pace Cars, so did the demand for building clones. When purchasing a pace car, decoding one is one very important, There are numbers on the trim tag that denotes one as a true pace car. Trim Tag must read "76B", "2000, "2005". This denotes the car as a true pace car, Also all pace cars were painted the exclusive Sun Glitter. Also, all pace cars had the metal pace car dash plaque. We have photos showing the trim tag, engines numbers, and the original pace car plaque.
Pace Cars are rare enough as it is, but to find a good, solid, well sorted one is near impossible. This particular car has only 61,308 miles on the odometer and they are believed to be original. This car was denoted as an all original well kept car prior to the full frame up restoration. As the car was restored, a lot of the originality of the car was left. The car retains many original components in the interior, the trunk compartment has the original mat and cardboard. The engine is the original with the proper ECU code on the block. The car received a highly detailed engine bay and chassis restoration. The car received new paint and new chrome. Many NOS parts were used in the restoration. The restoration was performed at least 10 years ago, but has always been in climate controlled storage.
Mechanically, you could not ask for a better car. All factory options are still working! Seldom do you get a classic car with everything working properly! As soon as you turn the key, the memory seat brings you to the exact seat position. The engine start with the push button selector immediately and is very powerful and smooth. The dual exhaust existing the rear bumper provides a muscle car sound. The transmission shifts as it should, The car is a true pleasure to drive and is an amazing experience with the top down on those summer nights. All the exterior lights and ornaments work provide a great visual affect. All original windows go up and down with ease. The original radio plays well and get many stations. The power antennae switch is in the radio and moves the factory power antennae well. The clock in dash work. The tachometer performs smooth with accuracy. All lights and gauges are operating as well. As you can see this is a very well sorted classic, and far better then the average.
