Introduced in 1967 as an upscale version of Ford's Mustang, the Mercury Cougar offered more refined, mature styling, a 3 inch longer wheel base, slightly softer suspension, and more luxurious interior. The optional XR7 model like this one gave you some nice upgrades. It features simulated burl-wood dash applique, in-dash tachometer, 120 MPH speedometer, bucket seats, console, matching seat belts, dash mounted toggle switches, and deluxe trim. This is a very nice car with a smooth, solid body, great running motor, nice riding suspension, power brakes, and power steering. It has a very unusual dealer installed Frigiking air conditioning system. The large vents on the back package tray blows forcefully toward the passengers. The unit resides behind the back seat in the trunk compartment instead of under the dash. The compressor and lines look like a typical system under the hood. It does not blow cold at this time so we will have to address that when a new owner comes along. This car drives really well and is fun behind the wheel. It is refreshing to find a nice original car like this that has obviously been well taken care of. The only owner was an engineer who was very thorough in his maintenance and care of this fine car. It spent most of it's life in Southern California and still has the famous black plates. We also have the original window sticker, data plate, owners manual, and Marti report.
