1950 Mercury Other Additional Info:
I purchased this outstanding Merc in Oregon 15 years ago but will be unable to finish. Most of the build is complete with the upholstery and paint left undone. Over $30,000 invested. My goal has been to build a 50's style car that was safe, comfortable and drives at interstate speeds. And to combine the best of 1949 with 1950.
It has a rebuilt 1958 Chevy 283 engine with mild cam, Edelbrock intake and 4 barrel carb, Cadillac air cleaner, alum. valve covers and Corvette headers. Power steering with stock steering column. Dual master cylinder and front disk brakes. Original transmission with OD is in excellent shape. Frame modified to permit removal of transmission from underneath. New wiring.
1949 pieces include dash, instruments and parking lights. Stainless grill. New chrome bumpers. Polished stainless side trim not yet installed... front fender trim pieces shortened to remove the word Mercury. Cadillac hubcaps with sculpted aluminum skull centers. 1952 Lincoln Steering wheel with same skull horn button.
Body shaved except for door handles... I always liked the 1950 push button. Spots work. Richmond Engineering wiper motor. Stainless sills. Seat belts front and rear. 12v except for 6v instruments in order to keep originals. The temp gage does not work but a professionally rebuilt original gage is included. Battery moved to trunk.
New tinted glass. Interior loaded with sound deadening and insulation. Good original front seat has been moved back 3" for taller drivers. No door panels. Good rear seat springs, headliner frames, good core arm rests for front and rear, etc.. Ready for upholstery.
Vintage Air heat and air. New remote controlled radio with CD. Dash completely original '49 including ash tray but back of radio had to be cut to accomodate AC therefore that radio does not work (but the light does!).
New shocks, rear springs and exhaust. Balanced driveshaft. New Fatman modified steering suspension eliminates bump steer. Front lowered 2"; rear lowered 3". Radial wide whites. 1951 fenderskirts. Rear brakes rebuilt. 1" hitch receiver so you can tow your antique boat or motorcycle!
Lots more.
Must be picked up in Central Virginia within two weeks of sale. $1000 paypal in two days and balance in cash in two weeks.
