1939 Mercury 2-door sedan
This beautiful 1939 Mercury 2-door sedan (first year for Mercury) came via an auction from the Towe Auto Museum in Sacramento in 1999. Previously it was displayed at the Towe Auto Museum in Deer Lodge Montana for nearly 20 years. In 2010 the Mercury was extensively modified with new interior, a new Flathead engine and modern running gear. The Mercury is very straight,looks great and runs great. Overall mileage is unknown, however less than 2000 miles have been put on the car since the rebuild.
The interior was redone in period correct materials, with seat belts and power windows added. In addition, new vintage appearing gauges were added, and an AM/FM/CD player under the dash, easily removed if not desired. The dash was repainted, and all areas of the interior were restored.
The engine was replaced in 2010, and is new. Highlights of the mechanical restoration included:
·New modified vintage Mercury correct flathead 8 cyclinder, bored and stroked to approximately 300 cubic inches
·Isky 400 junior camshaft
·Sharp heads
·Weiand supercharger
·New Walker radiator
·Edelbrock 65 carburetor
·12 volt Mallory ignition
·49-53 Mercury crank
·Red’s headers
·TCI Mustang front clip
·New drum brakes in the rear, new power disc brakes to the front
·New coil over springs
·Chevrolet T10 5 speed manual transmission
·Ford Mustang 9 inch rear end
·This car does not overheat and runs excellent. It is very fun to drive with the 5-speedMinor flaws:
·Overall paint is good with a few minor scratches and minor chips.
·There is some slight body damage (almost unnoticeable) below the grille.
·Top portion of the front bumper guards are scratched.
·The trunk carpet has minor stains.
·The running board on the driver side has some rubber that has peeled away.
·Speedometer is not currently hooked up. Odometer showing 88734.
·Original temperature gauge not working; however there is a new one installed. The car does not overheat.
