Up for sale is my 1990 Cougar XR7 with a 5 speed manual transmission. The 5 speed makes this car very rare with only 841 that were produced back in 1990. Don't know how many are left. Bought this cougar back in July of 2015. It had damage to both fenders, parking lights, and head lights. I bought it with a salvage title and had a good body shop replaced all front end parts (except the hood - it's original with no damage) from a donor car that was in great shape and the same color. No rust on the replacement fenders. Bought all the parts for $700 from Thunderbird SC Shop (651 235-0762) out of MN.
Parts include grill, Driver side door hinge rebuilt kit (fix sag in door), headlight set, header panel, driver side fender, passenger side fender, turn signal set, front bumper, turn signal socket, front fender bracket. I have a receipt for all that was purchased.
Had a mechanic do the following work in the last 1 ½ years. New valve cover gaskets, new platinum spark plugs, oxygen sensor, battery cable ends, new heavy duty battery, new power steering hose, ne lower ball joints, alternator rebuilt, sway bar link kit, strut rod bushing, stabilizer bar control link - both sides, and a recent oil and filter change. I have receipts for all parts and work performed.
The car runs strong and handles very well. It had just about every option available, even alarm system. The odometer has stopped working. Does not have a factory radio and the aftermarket one does not work. The paint still looks good but does have sun fade spots on hood left corner, both outside mirrors, and on top of back bumper. There is rust now bubbling in front of driver side rear tire and slight bubbling in rear corner (see images). All windows work along with sun roof and most of the controls for power seats. The lumbar on driver side does not inflate any more along with the side bolster. The ABS brake light comes on with the engine light now and then as well. I think I have listed all known issues, but remember, it is over 27 years old.
If you are looking for a 1990 Cougar XR7in really good shape to restore, this is the one.
P.S. The car looks really nice in the pictures, however it does have its share of chips, dull paint here and there, and one door dink on lower part of drivers door. Other than that, it has a very nice straight body with good shine on the paint. Wheels are in good shape as well. Very low reserve, let's get it to someone who appreciates these cars like I did.
