Please read the entire description before bidding!!
Up for auction is a 1949 Mercury 4 door sedan. The car originally came from Louisiana and was last tagged in 1967, and has been sitting ever since. The original flathead V8 was pulled for a Hot Rod project and the the rest of the car was left. I bought the car in the spring with the intentions of doing something with with it, but I have too many projects as it is. So I decided to pass it along to someone who would enjoy having it.
For the most part, the car is very complete. The dash is untouched and original. The front and rear seat frames are intact as well. Even though the door panels will need replacing, all of the stainless trim on the panels are still intact. I would have to think that these are commonly missing from a project car. I checked the pile of body side trim and all of it is there with the exception of the right front door side mldg, the left front door upper belt mldg, and the left quarter upper belt mldg. The rest will need clips and refinishing, but are present. Two of the moldings are still on the car. The original grille is intact and looks great! Most of the time, these will be missing. The hood ornament, emblems, trunk emblem, etc. are all on the car. I have the front marker light lenses and trim as well as the tail lights for the car as well. All of the flat glass will need to be replaced but the curved back glass looks decent. I have a transmission for the the car that seems to shift through the gears fine and is not locked up. I also have many other used mechanical parts that were in the car when I bought it, and will be included (pictured).
The body has usual rust spots which can be seen in the photos. The rockers, floors, trunk pan, and lower fenders will all need some form of rust repair. As I mentioned, this car has been sitting for many many years. The thing I love most about this car is how original and untouched the car is though... and it has GREAT PATINA which is very popular right now. I have looked at the frame and all of the inner structure and I can not see any signs of the car ever being wrecked. The really is a great start for your next project. The '49-'51 Mercurys have gotten very hard to find in and condition... and you rarely ever find them this complete and untouched.
My plans were to drop in an engine and trans, do a mechanical restoration on the car, freshen up the interior, and leave the car just as it is. The car rolls and steers fine. There are no frozen up brake drums to worry about it. I have pushed it around by myself many times. All of the tires hold air and will be fine for moving it around. If you're wondering about the blocks under the driver side, the left front tire tends to occasionally leak down over night when there is weight on it... not always though. It's easier just to leave it up on blocks until I have to move it. Please understand that this car is a project car. Everything will need some form of work before the car is roadworthy.
The car comes with a notarized BILL OF SALE and is located in Jackson, Mississippi. Please, Serious bidders only. Buyer is responsible for all shipping arrangements. I can assist with loading the vehicle. The winning bidder will pay a non-refundable deposit of $500 within 48 hours after the auction has ended. The remaining balance must be paid in full within 14 days after the auction has ended, and all funds must clear before the vehicle is released for transport. I am very easy to work with so please plan ahead and make prior arrangements for payment.
Thank you for looking at my auction!
