1990 Mercedes-Benz 190-Series Additional Info:
Selling my 1990 Mercedes 2.6 auto. I first purchased this baby Benz in 2011 at around 160k and ever since it has lived a interesting life.
Right away this the 2.6 needed head work. It was removed, cleaned, milled, and given new valve guides and seals from avery reputablelocal shop, Superior Machine. It was given a fresh head gasket, along with new intake and exhaust gaskets.
After six or seven thousand miles, the 2.6 engine and all accessories were removed, and in it's place a low mileage M103 3.0L was installed. The swap went and ran perfectly. The Benz lived with the 3.0 until around 172k miles when I happen to purchase an incredibly rare 2.6 5 Speed 190E. Unfortunately, the low mileage 3.0 was then removed, and became the power plant for my 5 Speed.
The 2.6 that was being stored locally, was then reinstalled. Countless worn parts have been replaced and fixed in the process of these swaps, that have made this 190E one of the nicest w201's I have gotten to drive.
Some of these parts include:
-Fuel pumps and filter
-Fuel pump check valves
-Brake master cylinder
-Fuel distributor
-Belt tensioner
-Serpentine belt
-Smog Pump
-Voltage Regulator in Alternator
-Spark plugs
-Radiator
-Aux water pump
-Vacuum hoses and valves
-New throttle cable
-3 new sensors on head (c.i.s. and temps)
-Upgraded fuse kit from MercedesSource
-OVP relay
-Seat switches
-Sun visors
Around town the car has been getting about 20-22 MPG and that's mostly side streets, and a little freeway. The car had made two effortless trips toCarson, and just took a full load of passengers up to Tahoe this last Sunday and took the climbvery well.
Rare for a Benz this old is that all four power windows function perfectly. A common failure, the of the wiring and soldering has been redone to ensure long lasting function.
The exterior of the car is in decent shape. I would argue that 7/10 is a modest assessment. It has been resprayed a lighter metallic silver over the Mercedes silver, and although is far from perfect, looks great in motion or from a few feet. The paint on the inside of the door handles is worn, but doesn't stand out.
The platinum interior is in decent shape for a car that is getting close to 30 years old. The door cards have a few blemishes here and there, but are intact with very little peeling and water damage. The dash is in perfect condition with absolutely ZERO cracks. The zebrano wood has also looks great, but has a few cracks showing the cars age. Nothing that detracts. Leather steering wheel that is slightly faded, but still nice. Decent quality Dual head unit, and fresh Orion speakers installed in the rear deck. Sounds very nice. The head unit has an aux cord and usb connection. I never bothered to hook up the cars FM radio adapter.
Interestingly enough, the car is always blowing hot air. Most likely do to a $47 valve located near the blower motor. A service I am familiar with on my 5 speed that cured a similar problem. The blower motor works well, with no sounds of chirping, squealing, or grinding. The AC needs to be recharged, or converted to the new cheaper refrigerant. Seal kits and or complete AC compressors are easy to find on eBay, and not hard to install.
Car passed Nevada smog with flying colors about 6 weeks ago, and with how well it runs and the idle as smooth as it is, it will definitely pass another test. Again, something kind of rare for these older Benz's.
This 190 has a great autoscore of 56 when similar 190's get 25-45.
I will be updating the add throughout the week as I remember more details, and add pictures. I am also listing the car locally, and reserve the right to end this auction before its close.
Any questions feel free to ask.
