Up for auction is my 1985 “European” Mercedes Benz W126 380SEL (badged as a 560SEL) – 141,125.00 ORIGINAL miles. I am selling this vehicle due to a recent health issue – I’m not able to do the routine maintenance on the vehicle anymore.
I purchased this vehicle during the Summer of 2013 from a gentleman in Columbus,Ohio (mild winters - sand instead of salt...) who restored vintage Mercedes vehicles professionally. He was selling it for his elderly father who used it as his “daily driver”. He purchased it for his father from a Mercedes dealer in Columbus, OH – it probably was a “trade-in”.
I believe I am the 3rd owner of this vehicle.
This vehicle is “solid” -see the photos, and runs & drives well. I have the maintenance records that I received when I purchased the vehicle -dating back to 05/2001, and the records from the maintenance that I have had professionally done - please see photo of the receipt from the engine work that was done in the Summer of 2014. I was planning to keep this car for a long time and did not scrimp on the maintenance when it was required.
This is the “Euro” version of the Mercedes 380 SEL – it has a bigger engine and better front end “styling” (in my opinion) than the US version. It has the “dual” timing chain (replaced in 08/14, along with cam, rails, etc., while they were doing the engine work - please see photos of receipt).
There are a few minor issues with the vehicle – please see below.
Windshield (original) is cracked at the bottom due to blasting it too much with the defroster one morning during the “deep-freeze” of 2014.
Dash pad is cracked
RH Front Door window is not working – motor runs, the glass must be off the track. I checked into it: a piece of the regulator has a tendency to break due to age – it’s an easy fix.
The windshield washer motor does not work.
AC does not work – needs freon and/or conversion. Compressor works – it was replaced. I have the documentation.
New Tires (5): Cooper CS5 Ultra Touring
New Cap & Rotor
Spark Plugs & Wires
Radiator “Flush & Fill” & Hoses
New heater blower motor – not “used”.
Brakes - pads, rotors and a calipers (when required)
Included in the sale are 5 BBS 14” inch rims ("Winter" rims - require re-finishing) and lug nuts, original Mercedes Manuals: V-8 Engine M116.96 (3.8) & M117.96 (5.0) and Service Manual, Chassis and Body - Series 126, Volume 1 as well as a couple other manuals I purchased from mercedessource.com andsome other "stuff" - see photos.
This is an excellent vehicle that would be a great “daily driver” or restore project.
