1963 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series 220SE Additional Info:
This 1963 Mercedes-Benz 220SE Coupe was built for the U.S. market, although as you can see, has had European headlights installed (not an uncommon find on this model). I purchased the car 2 1/2 years ago from a restorer in Costa Mesa, CA and have put over $20,000 into the car since then, to get it sorted out just to my liking. Although I have a dealer's license, this particular car was purchased for my own collection (sending it to NC for a year, and now back to CA). The previous owner (the restorer) had owned it for over 20 years in Southern California, and from the lack of rust and decay I would probably guess that the car has spent most of its life here. It won an award at a regional MBCA event about a year and a half ago.
The new black paint and red leather interior are in excellent condition, as is the refinished wood. The engine detail was very well done as well. With it's 4-speed manual transmission it has proven to be quite a delight to drive in the city, as well as a very comfortable and smooth ride on long trips. I would expect that you could drive this car coast-to-coast without a problem. As far as imperfections, the chrome around the left taillight is discoloring, as well as in a couple of other areas. In the interior there are a couple of areas where there are wrinkles in the leather that could be smoothed out.(Please note that although the speedometer/odometer works properly I am certain that the miles shown are not accurate).
