1980 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series SD Additional Info:
Simply the worlds best W116 300SD. Out of my own collection. 2 owner. California car. The only W116 for someone who wants the best.
Step back in time to the MB showroom in 1980. The W116 is on it's way out and the W126 on it's way in come 1981. The W116s crowning achievement being the first Turbo Diesel passenger car ever made. They were rare and hand made exclusively for North America. Only 6500 examples in total were produced. It was considered to be a test bed to try out the new technology on the wide open US roads. The Germans being German did not have to change a thing mechanically for the new 300SD of 81'. Yet, or many MB owners the W126 will never have the solidity of the W116.
This gorgeous 36 year old 300SD still shines and functions like the day it was built. Quite the testament to the quality of materials and build that they exceeded at in the golden age at Mercedes.
Everything works perfectly, he paint is completely original and without flaw, erviced as required. New climate control servo from MB, completely rebuilt the A/C last summer with compressor, oses, xpansion valve, ryer and retrofitted to 134A the right way. Ice cold. All fluids have been changed and all necessary services carried out. As flawless mechanically as it is cosmetically. You can drive this car anywhere any time with complete confidence.
Interior is leather, ot MB Tex, rare option. Also sunroof delete. No cracks or crazing in the wood, he dash is flawless, ll vacuum items work perfectly.
It is my understanding from the previous owner that the car was never in the rain. Easy to accomplish in CA. I have only driven the car on sunny days here in MN. Thus, he car has never been in the weather in 36 years! Always garaged of course. The spare and tools have never been used.
I swapped the original Bundts for these rare vented steel 6.5" Mercedes wheels off of a 6.3 as well as a color matched set of hubcaps. Tires are Michelin XWX which were original to the car when it was new. However, he original XWXs that were on the car when I bought it were completely unsafe to drive on due to their age. So I bought a set of new reproduction XWX Michelins and put them on. If you want Bundts they are cheap and plentiful and the tires are easy to have swapped over.
This is the best W116 on the planet aside from the one in the MB museum with no miles on it. I am completely confident there is not a better one hidden anywhere.

Details on us and the cars we offer:
We service and restore classic European cars for our local clients. We also maintain a large collection of some of the rarest and most interesting cars offered from the 20's through the 80's. We love what we do and have a passion for classic cars. We do our best to find the very best examples in existence of any given car because we are first and foremost buying these cars for ourselves and we find that restoring a car quickly eclipses the initial purchase price. Thus, verage condition cars are not even considered. We only buy what we like and we like cars that are ahead of their time, ngineering marvels, irsts, asts, oachbuilt, handbuilt or simply aesthetically pleasing. The commonality between them is high initial build quality - We have learned what is good and what is not through years of working on these cars. This is mainly the reason we do not own/sell American cars (with a few pre-war exceptions). However, ometimes we need to make decisions in regards to redundant cars in the collection, hanging tastes and cars that just are not used. Other times we find something just plain interesting to offer. These cars show up here for sale. As mechanics that specialize in European cars we find it fairly simple to keep the cars in top shape. They are meant to be driven at any given time weather permitting so each car gets the shop time it needs. This means the resulting car is as good as it can be. All of our cars are at least 25 years old and though in exceptional original condition for their age or restored at some point, hey are not new. We service and drive these cars ourselves, ut we can miss something due to the number of cars we maintain. We encourage you to ask any questions, arry out any inspections and do whatever necessary to feel comfortable with any particular car before buying. Sometimes the cars in the background of the pictures are or will be for sale as well so feel free to ask if something catches your eye. We are happy to pick you or your agent up from MSP airport evenings or weekends for vehicle inspection and we can also help arrange shipping though international shipping will require you to find an importer in your country.
