This 1969 Mercedes Benz 220 Diesel was originally purchased by army pilot Major Edward G. Haislop, III on November 18, 1968 in Germany. Major Haislop, along with his copilot General James H. Polk, unfortunately lost his life just a few months later in Milan, Italy, when his plane lost power shortly after takeoff and fell to the ground. The car was then shipped to Maj. Haislop's wife in Parkersburg, WV. The car was driven regularly by both Maj. Haislop's wife and the subsequent owner for 13 years, racking up just under 85,000 miles. In 1982, the new owner parked the car in his garage to perform bodywork. Unfortunately, he got sick and was not able to complete the bodywork, and the car has been in storage ever since.

As it sits, the car is very solid for its age. There are many photos below that show the overall condition in great detail; the body does have rust on many of the corners, which I've pictured to the best of my ability. The interior is in great condition for the age, with only a few small cracks in the red leather and a missing piece on the passenger door panel. The motor does turn over, and the clutch is not frozen to the flywheel.

There are photos at the bottom of this listing of the car immediately after being removed from storage, along with a photo of the newspaper article detailing the original owner's passing, and the original sales documents from when the car was purchased in Germany.
