Rare 1992 Mercedes-Benz 600SEL V12 Anti-Ballistic Level III Armored Vehicle

Originally purchased as a chauffeur-driven vehicle in Beverly Hills, this Mercedes-Benz carried a new-car price of $138,000. This specially built Mercedes was then brought to National Institute of Justice Level III anti-ballistic armored protection at an additional cost exceeding $100,000. This car was very well maintained.

Most armor plated or bullet proof cars available are lightly armored with much thinner bulletproof glass which would typically only protect from smaller caliber ammunition.

This vehicle has ballistic protection rated slightly above the Level III designation. Designed to withstand six impacts of 7.62mm NATO FMJ (military rifle ammunition) traveling at a velocity of approximately 2,780 feet per second. Being a level III anti-ballistic vehicle, you would be protected against a 9mm, .44 Magnum, and high powered rifles and certainly any smaller caliber ammunition under that. This level of protection on a new or newer car will cost in the $350,000 to $650,000 range. Feel free to look it up.

Armoring & Protection

The vehicle features extensive armor plating throughout, including:

• Full armor plating of the body, doors, floor and undercarriage, roof/sunroof, fenders, trunk, front of car and engine compartment.

• It is steel reinforced throughout.

• Glass-clad polycarbonate windshield and all glass throughout is approximately 2.5 inches thick.

• Self-sealing fuel tank.

• Battery located in the trunk and protected by armored plating.

• Self sealing tires, but are older.

• Armor plated glass in the sunroof.

Although the car is older it is a 600 series V-12 and shows very well. It runs excellent, and the interior is like new. It is incredibly quiet when driving with almost zero wind or road noise.

This vehicle gives you an incredible feeling of safety and protection when driving or being driven around.

It should be pointed out that the top layers of the windshield are cracked. After consulting with armored glass specialists, you can delaminate the top one or two layers which will reduce it from anti-balistic level III on the windshield to probably a level II on the windshield only. The cost of this would be around $1,000-$1,500. We had quotes on windshield replacement from $5,000 - $8,500 for the same level III windshield.

The pictures do not do the car justice. The paint is in excellent condition and very high gloss. Photos were taken on a cloudy day, so you cannot really see the high gloss of the paint. There are some minor scuffs and scratches on the corner of the front bumper and the bottom of the rocker panels. Very minor and very easy to fix. All in all the paint is in excellent condition.

This would be a rare opportunity to own a high level armored Mercedes-Benz 600SEL with the legendary 6.0-liter V12 engine. You can travel with complete safety in a high level of comfort.
