Mercedes-Benz 1977 307D W602 T1 Camper Van
Meet 'Mr. Mustard'.
This is one of the first 1977 TN (Transporter Neu) vans off the line in Bremen, Germany, and it's covered three continents since. He's ready for more. Today it sits in storage in the San Fernando Valley, just north of Hollywood. We take him out on weekends to catch some waves. This van is perfect companion for the So Cal beach bum!
Power comes from the OM615 naturally aspirated diesel, simple and reliable, paired with a 4-speed manual, rear-wheel drive. 297,936 km (~185,129 mi) on the odometer. For an additional $1,500 I'll include a complete 5-speed overdrive transmission swap. Everything on this truck is manual: manual steering, manual brakes, manual windows. A/C is roll the window down. LED headlights are the one concession to modern life, plus a custom teak roof rack built for surfboards. Rolling on 4 brand new ATX tires, + a full size pare. ($2500 value)
The mid-1980's camper appliances have been removed, a blank slate. Build it out however you want with new kit for your van life, or just run it as-is with a mountain of cargo space. This early version predates the side sliding door (known to be very problematic), so it's front doors and rear barn doors only. All the glass is intact, dash is perfect, and has zero cracks.
He's got his share of rust spots, dings, dents, each one a souvenir from a trip this van already took in it's world travels. Nothing too major. Seats could use a bit of re-upholstery. Aside from that it's fully complete and runs, drives, stops, no drama. It's a slow old guy, but it is always economical, and will get you where you're going. Point it at the pacific coast, load the surf boards, and go! Point it at the mountains, load the camping gear, and head out!
