This 1976 Mercedes-Benz 450SEL is said to have remained registered in California since new, and it remained under the care of two previous owners before being acquired by our dealer. We have transformed it back to the original European German style by replacing front and rear bumpers and the original Bosh German headlights, a 4.5-liter V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, the car is finished in Brilliant Red Metallic over black leather upholstery. Features include a sunroof, 14″ steel wheels, color-matching wheel centers, a Pioneer stereo, cruise control, R134a-based air conditioning, and automatic climate control. Work completed since 2021 has included replacing the shocks, tires, brake components, sway bar links, thermostat, heater hoses, and battery. This W116 450SEL is offered by our dealer with manufacturer’s literature, service records, and a clean Michigan title.
The car was finished from the factory in Brilliant Red Metallic (525) and has been repainted years ago, still shows nice but not perfect. Exterior details include quad headlights, a sunroof, fog lights, a power antenna, and bright trim. The sunroof seal has been replaced.
The 14″ steel wheels feature covers with body-color centers and are fitted with Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires that have 2023 date codes. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted ventilated front and solid rear discs. The sway bar links were replaced in 2021, and the shocks and brake components have been recently replaced.
The seating surfaces have been reupholstered in black leather. 450 SEL-branded floor mats line the footwell, and interior features include a Pioneer stereo, R134a-based air conditioning, power windows, cruise control, and automatic climate control. The clock and rear central locks do not work.
The 4.5-liter M117 V8 was factory rated at 180 horsepower and 220 lb-ft of torque. The thermostat, heater hoses, and battery were replaced in 2021, and the car passed a California emissions test in October 2025.
The car starts right up, drives real smooth, I get thumbs up everywhere I drive it.
