1972-1973 Mercedes 450SL’s are becoming next highly collectible SL after the pricey and very famous W113 280SL Pagoda Mercedes!! Part of what makes them so desirable to Collectors and Mercedes enthusiasts is the increased U.S. emissions and safety requirements starting in 1974 causing later models to be fitted with special crash bumpers and emissions control systems resulting in reduced overall look, performance and horse-power! Early R107’s are exactly how Mercedes-Benz had them designed, with sleek short European bumpers!

About the car:

This SL had the same owner since 1993! Over the past 8-10 years it was rarely used and driven, but it does start, drive and engine runs good! As with any vehicle that hasn’t been driven much over the years, some TLC is required before any serious driving is done (tires are old and need to be replaced, general service and maintenance performed, etc.)

This beauty comes in a very desirable and elegant Byzantine Gold Metallic (color code #422 Byzanzgold)! It was repainted back in the mid-90’s, and paint looks good from few feet away, but upon closer look there are some cracks and imperfections due to its age and use.

All body panels (doors, hood, trunk lid) line up properly and operate with ease. Original VIN Number stamping is also present on the front radiator support, and data plate chassis number stamping matches the number on the bottom of the hard top!

Interior is all complete. Seats are very comfortable, but interior is showing its age. Power windows are working as they should.

This SL comes with both Hard Top and the Soft top. Hard top is in great condition, and all glass is nice and complete. Brown Canvas Soft Top is in good condition (small patch on the passenger side), but it operates with ease and it is useable!

Original tool set is present as well as the original jack, and spare tire that was NEVER mounted or touched the ground!!

All in all this is a very nice, complete and early short Euro bumper 450SL that will make a straightforward and fun project, and great return on your investment!!! Best thing is that the prices of early 450L’s started to skyrocket in the last few years, and finding a good, complete running and driving car, for a good price is becoming a harder and harder task!
