1958 Mercedes-Benz 220S Additional Info:

1958 Mercedes Benz 220S Sedan

This car was acquired from an elderly gentleman from southern New Mexico

Ithad not been running for approx. 30 years. It has been registered in Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico-all fairly dry States and thus the body rust is minimal.

When I received the car, it was obvious that it had sun damage to the interior. Leather seats pretty dried out, the special wood trim at the dashboard, and window inserts, still intact yet needing refurbishing.

The fuel tank was drained and cleaned and fresh gas revived the motor which has no smoke during test firings.

The car starts easily. New oil, spark plugs, and the car runs. I have not driven off property as the brakes will need bleeding. No insight on the condition of the brake cylinders, but I see no apparent leaks.

This Mercedes shows pride of ownership with a large folder filled with mechanical repair/maintenance receipts from all 3 States it has resided in. The most recent former owner had a automotive repair shop and they installed a new tail pipe and muffler. Tags still intact.

It will need a paint job, new interior, chrome refurbishment, headliner, and heater cardboard boxes replaced. There is one spot under the hood which will need some body work from rust at rt. fender. Solid floors can be found and no other rust discovered. Some rust in the trunk floor, but the wheel wells for the spare tire are rust free.

I have restored 3 of these rare 50’s German beauties and the necessary parts for a full restoration are still available through various domestic and EU outlets. I have had a lot of fun, with great memories of my restorations. From receiving cars in very poor condition to driving to and from the DMV with fresh title, inspection and plates. These old cars were way ahead in engineering to their American counterparts. You will find 4 independent suspension with a rear swing axle, bucket seats, smooth shifting on the column, power assist brakes, single overhead cam that purs when tuned correctly. It is a joy to drive and is quiet with spring reinforced seats for comfort.

Perhaps you’ve always wanted one of these now rare Pontons as they are called. It may take you some time, but you’ll learn a lot, and the work will pay off. My car turns a lot of heads while I’m out cruising.

Thanks for looking, please ask any questions before pressing on the GO button. Car is located in Santa Fe, New Mexico about an hour from Albuquerque. Buyer will need to make shipping arrangements, and Im happy to assist.
