1993 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Additional Info:

This Mercedes-Benz 600SL (R129 body as Mercedes calls it) is a two seat convertible with its original Mercedes black soft top (power operated) and a factory supplied removable hard top, also in black. Only 58,037 Original documented miles! The 600SL was the top of the line for this SL series and has every conceivable option, including full leather interior (in Palamino Tan) and active hydraulic suspension. The car was garage kept virtually its whole life, and it shows! Still has its factory Jet Black paint in extremely good condition (only a few dings and light scratches). Never been in an accident and has a very solid body with no rust. Hard to find one in this kind of original condition, and the beautiful Black/Tan leather color combination adds to the impressive, classic look. The big V-12 engine starts right up, whether it's hot or cold. These engines have Double Overhead Cams and four valves per cylinder - a mechanical work of art. A Bucket List item for every car enthusiast should be to own a 12 cylinder engine car. Quiet, forceful power that moves the 4,500 pound car with amazing ease. The original owner had the car for 24 years, and besides someone who had the car for two months, another owner and myself have had it for three years each (retired mechanical engineer - getting a little too old to comfortably get in and out of it). Brakes, tires (high speed Z rated), wiper motor, wiper interval timer module, cabin air filter, air conditioning evaporator coil, HVAC control module, HVAC blower motor, and battery are among the items that have been replaced in the past three years or so. The Mercedes AM/FM/CD radio and the power antenna work intermittently, so the units function, but there is apparently a power or ground lead gremlin that needs to be checked. Similarly, the passenger side power window is slow, and the telescopic/tilt steering wheel telescopes, but won't tilt. To be sure, this is a thirty year old car, and while there is no warranty (the car is sold As-Is, Where-Is), I've had the car in several shows and think nothing of regularly taking trips of 300 - 400 miles with it.The original MSRP sticker price for this car was in excess of $120,000.00 (over $225,000.00 in today's dollars!), and this is reflected in the level of detail in engineering and hand assembled craftsmanship that would not be present in most of today's cars. This vehicle was one of the most expensive and best overall automobiles during its time. It combined the road holding and acceleration of a sports car with the opulent appointments of the finest luxury cars, not to mention that it is a nice looking car. This is offered for sale as a Local Pick Up item, from Valhalla, NY.
