1971 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series 280SE Additional Info:
This is a classic MB 280SE. This is a hand built S-class MB of its day.It was delivered in Arizona new and lived there for 40-ish years, then was sold to a collector in North Carolina and purchased by a dealer in western Pennsylvania, from whom I bought it. It was ordered without the typical american delivered options of automatic transmission, power windows and power locks. SO you have a rare, 4 speed manual with manual windows and locks (these systems fail with great regularity and expensive to fix). It has a inline 6 cylinder engine that will run all day at 80mph with the factory AC blowing (I drove it from Western PA to Texas), in the summer, in Texas. Before I drove it home from PA, new brakes, tires, rubber, hoses, belts, a complete tune up and all the fluids were changed. Someone before me put the 4.5 on the back of the car. She is not an 8 cylinder. Inline 6, but runs runs runs. No smoke, doesn't burn oil.I got home and replaced the original mechanical ignition with an electrical one (starts right up, even after sitting for a month or so) and I also had the gas tank cleaned and lined with some super (professional) lining ($800).I cannot find any rust on this car. I put some additional new floor mats over the carpet that was there. Seats are original and flawless. There is a detail missing on the window crank in one of the back door (see pics). The gages work, except the clock and the odometer which both work sporadically. Drives in Texas without issue, never overheats.Clearly was repainted at some point, but I don't know when. Was almost certainly white from the get go.So you get a RARE 4 speed manual (S class) MB with factory AC that has had all the things that you will spend money fixing already done.Does have an aftermarket radio, works fine, sounds really good. Don't have the original radio. Price is negotiable but only a little. Don't need to sell, not rushed to do so. Car available to be inspected. Has been professionally maintained by Texas German Autohaus here in Houston (can provide phone and contact there upon request). Have original books and original took kit. Can send any pics you want. This is a really fine car. I just don't drive her and don't have room to store her properly. Asking well below what it took to get here to the point where she is, but I have been told by experts she is worth from $15-17K, with the work that has been done. Cash. or Cashier's check must clear before the car goes if it is to be shipped, please. Thanks for looking.
