1970 Mercedes 300SEL 6.3. Here is a nice 300SEL 6.3 with 151,551 miles. VIN: 10901812004163. Silver with black leather interior. I have owned this car since 2000, and have been in the process of repairing all of the items that were in need of repair or replacement. I have invested more than $30,000 in this car and is nearly complete. Still needs paint work and some minor accessory repairs. I have found no evidence of collision damage. There is a mark on the right fender where a jack slipped and caused a dent in the right front fender (see photo). This was planned to be repaired with the complete re-paint work. The car has been repainted the original color once. Paint is nice and has good color depth except it has just started to fade on the top and the hood. As you can see from the pictures the black leather and the wood are in very good condition. The carpeting is also in very good to excellent condition.
Car was purchased from Kent Bergsma of Mercedessource.com in Bellingham, WA in 2000. He purchased the car from an individual in Washington State earlier that same year where it was in dry storage for 12 years. That owner purchased the car in the Palm Springs area. The remaining time it has been garaged in Layton, UT. Car has very minor rust showing in a few places, but I have not seen any major rust through areas. Engine running very strong. No issues noted. Passes local emission testing just fine. Transmission shifts crisp and firm. This is car has the early front turn signal lamps in the headlight housings. Later ’70 and on 6.3’s have separate amber front turn lamp assemblies that mount to the front sheet metal apron. This car was fitted with a single driving lamp.
All air bags have been replaced by Werner’s Mercedes of Salt Lake City, UT. All of the air suspension valves and main valve have been overhauled including the alcohol injection unit which included a new air filter canister by the very capable hands of Martin Werminghausen of 600airsuspension.com in Lincoln, MA. The car stays up for months on end while parked. The injection pump and all injectors have been overhauled by Jerry Fairchild Industries Inc. of Redding, CA. A new fuel pump has been installed. The rear axle has been overhauled locally by German Car Service of Salt Lake City, UT (they still have the factory specialized tooling to dis-assemble and re-assemble the axle). The fuel tank has been removed, cleaned and repainted. The fuel lines to the fuel filter canister have been replaced with genuine factory lines with swaged-on metal fuel fittings (threaded fuel fittings and a banjo fuel fitting) (a bear of a job); no bulk hose and clamps were used as I have seen on many 6.3s over the years. I have complete repair records since May of 2000 to be included with purchase. Scans of any above mentioned repair available on request. A pre-sale inspection by yourself or a second partyof this vehicle is welcome.
Still needs minor items attended to such as heater lever replacement, radio repair and AC Freon charging.
My wife is in a care facility now and on hospice and I must sell my beloved car to help pay for her care. I have invested much into this car. My loss, your gain.
