1981 Mercedes Benz SL-Class Additional Info:

The Mercedes Benz W107 chassis was one of the longest running models in their history. This chassis ran underneath various bodies starting in 1971 all the way through to 1989. One of the most sought after and collectible today are the SL-Class vehicles featuring the ever-popular convertible sport car design! Some notable changes on the newly introduced 380SL series in 1980 would include a 4-speed automatic transmission, and the following year, more fuel-efficient engines with a more highway friendly gear ratio. This model would cater to buyers from 1980 through mid-1985. Today, they represent an easy way to get into a classy investment vehicle with timeless good looks, along with excellent road going manners! We are excited to offer this 1981 Mercedes Benz 380SL finished in Astral Silver exterior and showcasing a lighter blue interior with grey leather seating. This 380SL comes complete with a Dark Blue convertible soft top and a painted hard top. Powering this Mercedes sports car is a 3.8L V8 fuel-injected engine that produces 204 horsepower with 232 ft. ft. of torque and mated to a rebuilt automatic 4-speed transmission. Some of the features include automatic climate control air conditioning system, power windows, powered passenger side mirror, Yamaha AM/FM cassette radio, cruise control, power 4-wheel disc brakes, power steering, passenger vanity mirror, windshield washer, tinted glass, velour trunk carpeting, car cover, center folding armrest, halogen fog lamps, adjustable front bucket seats and chromed 14" Mercedes light-alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Radial XH4 all season tires measuring 205/70R14. This Mercedes' early life was meticulously maintained exclusive at Plaza Mercedes Benz of St. Louis. In 2019 the current owner replaced the oil drain plug and seal ring, valve cover gaskets, exhaust seal ring, transmission modulator valve, vacuum servo, transmission seal kit, rear crank shaft seal, and battery all done at German car specialist, EuroCar of St. Louis, MO. Porsche of St. Louis retrofitted the air conditioning system to R134a and fixed a leak at the compressor in 2019. In 2020, the transmission was removed and professionally rebuilt by GLB Motorworks along with a new starter installed. In preparation for sale, our service shop recently had the front passenger wheel bearing replaced. The Mercedes 380SL remains a terrific driver eager to hit the road! It has seen one exterior repaint, not including the hardtop which wears its factory paint along with a few imperfections, while the interior remains original with exception to the lower console wood trim being brand new. This 380SL shows 73,115 miles on the odometer and comes with a clean Carfax report along with the original owner's manual, window sticker & purchase paperwork from the original dealer at Mark Motors Inc in Illinois, as well as the aforementioned service receipts. The Carfax supports that it has averaged under 350 fair weather miles each year over the past 15 years, which has preserved this Mercedes in a beautiful, garage kept condition. Also included with the purchase of this Mercedes is a full set of painted light-allow wheels (4), storage car cover, wool seat covers, and factory first aid kit. Thank you for your interest in this great-looking and driving sports car! Please contact us with any questions or to schedule an appointment to our showroom for a closer look.
