1984 Mercedes 300CD Turbo Diesel 2-Door Coupe - The Perfect Restoration or Alternate Fuel Modification Project
Revive the Legend: The 1984 Mercedes 300CD Turbo Diesel Driving Experience - Your Road to Classic Luxury!
VIN: WDBAB53A9EA174620
Description:
This 1984 Mercedes 300CD Turbo Diesel 2-Door Coupe is a classic in need of a loving owner to restore it to its former glory or modify it for alternative fuel use. Mercedes engineered these models to be incredibly durable, and with the right care, they can last for a million miles or more.
Engine:
The 3-liter inline 5-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, considered to be one of the most reliable engines ever built, is in excellent shape and starts easily. It has been exclusively serviced with synthetic engine oil since 2009.
History:
These Mercedes models are renowned for their longevity, and this one has many miles left to give. This particular car has a history of reliability, having been driven from Florida to Maine in 2016 with only a flat tire issue. It was registered as an antique auto and locally driven in southern Maine, but never in snowy or icy conditions so it only has relatively minor rust more typical of a Florida car. Its Maine registration expired in June 2023. The odometer reached 179,492 miles before it stopped working.
Maintenance and Repairs:
The automatic transmission was professionally rebuilt in 2019, with less than 1,000 miles on it since. However, some repairs are needed, particularly windshield replacement due to damage from an improperly secured hood last year. At a minimum, the windshield and both hood hinges need replacement to make the car safe and legal to drive again.
Restoration Potential:
This car, with its solid engine and transmission, has fantastic restoration potential. With a few thousand dollars invested in restoration, similar models have sold for $40,000 to $50,000 or more. Here are some key restoration items to consider:
Bodywork is needed in several areas before painting.
Some floor panel replacement due to rust.
Glowplug relay replacement.
Power window issues, likely related to control switches.
Sunroof gasket replacement.
Replacement of rubber seals on power windows.
Air conditioner repair.
Replacement of engine mounts and air filter rubber mounts.
Replacement of worn-out floor covering rugs.
Replacement of plastic trim around the headlights.
Dashboard and wood trim repairs.
Radio replacement.
Repair of radio antenna.
Repair of pushbutton controls for fan, heater, and A/C.
Replacement of center console wood trim.
Engine temperature gauge and odometer repairs.
Repair of side mirrors; their internal springs are disconnected or missing.
Mercedes hood ornament replacement.
Right door hinge height adjustment.
Cooling system flush with likely heater valve repair or replacement. Repair or replace the transmission's 'kick-down' switch located underneath the accelerator pedal. Battery replacement.
Deep cleaning.
Repair or replace miscellaneous small parts.
This 1984 Mercedes 300CD Turbo Diesel has the potential to become a classic gem in the hands of the right enthusiast. Don't miss your chance to own and restore this iconic vehicle!
Please text me at 207-358-9123 for any question or concern you have and I will get back to you as soon as I am free to reply by text or by calling you.
If possible, please inspect the vehicle before you commit yourself to purchase. I have listed above the deficiencies I know about, although I am not a professional mechanic and it is entirely likely I have missed something. But I would still be enjoying driving this amazing sports car if I hadn't messed up the hood and windshield last year!
Conditions of Sale:
This vehicle is sold As-Is Where-Is with no warranty expressed or implied. It is located in East Waterboro, southern Maine. If you wish to arrange shipping to your location I will coordinate with your shipper to make it happen. Please be advised that this car cannot be safely or legally driven with its present smashed windshield. It also cannot be towed any distance with its rear wheels on the ground because doing so would destroy the transmission, so a flatbed tow truck or automobile trailer it can be driven or winched onto is recommended.
Once you purchase the vehicle I expect payment as follows:
Please submit a non-refundable $500 deposit through eBay at the time of purchase, with the remaining balance paid between us (no eBay intervention) within 72 hours. The balance can be made by cash in person, bank transfer, cashier check, or money order. The final sales transaction, including title transfer and handing you the keys, must be completed within 7 calendar days of the auction close or Buy It Now purchase unless other options are agreed upon in advance.
