1992 Mercedes-Benz 500E RENNtech 6.0L Additional Info:
This 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500E was modified by RENNtech to their E60 specification in the early 1990s. The modifications were performed under original ownership, and the car was acquired in September 1994 by the next owner, who has since added 95k of the 120k indicated miles. Power is provided by a 6.0-liter double overhead cam V8 backed by a modified 4-speed automatic transmission and RENNtech limited-slip differential. Other modifications include multi-piece O.Z. Racing wheels, RENNtech suspension, ASR defeat switch, and more detailed below.
The body is finished in black pearl (199), and per the seller RENNtech fitted the car with a post-facelift front end and color-keyed the lower body cladding. The front bumper has been repainted to correct for rock chips and scuffs along the lower surfaces.
The O.Z. Racing multi-piece wheels measure 17x8.5″ at the front, and 17x10″ at the rear. The BF Goodrich G-Force Sport tires measure 245/45 and 275/40 respectively. An additional set of factory 500E wheels with tires are also included with the sale.
The cabin is upholstered in black leather with dark-colored wood veneers on the dash, doors, and center stack. The car is equipped with a vintage car phone, heated power seats, automatic climate control, and a power sunroof. The factory Becker radio was serviced by Becker AutoSound in February 2019. The seller notes that the air conditioning system was recently serviced.
Instrumentation consists of a 160-mph speedometer, 7k-rpm tachometer with nested analog clock, and fuel, oil pressure, and coolant temperature gauges. 120k miles are shown, approximately 95k of which were added by the current owner.
The original owner had the 5.0-liter V8 modified by RENNtech, increasing displacement to 6.0-liters. The conversion cost just under $19k, and in conjunction with the installed carbon fiber airbox produced approximately 390 horsepower. The airbox was recently replaced due to finish issues, and other modifications include a defeat switch for the Acceleration Slip Reduction (ASR) system, modification of the transmission for first-gear starts, and fitment of a limited-slip differential.
Recent work (as of 2019) included fitment of a new battery, drive belts, a rear ride-height sensor, and rear suspension accumulators. A transmission flush and oil and filter change were also performed.
A set of RENNtech sport springs and two sport dampers are fitted according to available documentation.
Factory Mercedes-Benz literature is included, as are price sheets and correspondence from RENNtech. A selection of service records from the prior owner are available, as is the issue of the DuPont registry where the current owner found the car in 1994, and the bill of sale from their purchase.
