1991 Mercedes-Benz 500-Series 500 SL Additional Info:

1991 RED MERCEDES BENZ 500 SL Why This Car Is Special The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is a grand touring car manufactured by Mercedes since 1954. The designation SL derives from the German Sportlich-Leicht, (Sport Lightweight). Ever since the launch of the original 300 SL 'Gullwing' back in 1954, the SL has always been Mercedes-Benz's flagship sports car. The fourth generation SL, which the 1991 Mercedes Benz 500 SL that we have at Skyway Classics is, had the fresh, aerodynamic styling and packed with high-tech features it came with back in 1991. Mechanical Our 500 SL has a 32-valve DOHC V8 engine with 326 horsepower on tap, under the hood with the engine compartment looking very clean and detailed. It has all the correct factory parts like air cleaner assembly, ram air system, belts, hoses, and accessories. The R129's suspension has a sophisticated five-arm multi-link set-up at the rear and an Adaptive Damping System, with ABS. Interior The plush tan leather interior on our 500 SL is suitably well appointed, with luxury features like airbags, electric seats, automatic climate control and a Bose sound system on certain models, along with electric windows and even a wind deflector. As a sophisticated sports roadster, the 500 SL represents excellent value and these early cars also have the advantage of the superb build quality Daimler Benz was renowned for. Exterior The bright red paint makes sure you pay attention to this German sports car like you should. Body lines are great as well as all the trim. It rides on performance tires mounted on factory eight spoke wheels. The tan top matches the interior and makes for a great looking package. As ever, safety was paramount in the 500 SL and the innovative new automatic roll bar, activated in a split second in the event of a rollover, was one of the first seen on any passenger car. The folding soft top is powered by an electro-hydraulic system, activated at the touch of a button and taking just 30 seconds to raise or lower. Conclusion With 326 horsepower on tap, the 500 SL we have here at Skyway Classics certainly packs a punch and delivers serious performance. Autocar magazine recorded an 0-60 mph time of just 5.9 seconds on the way to a top speed limited to 155 mph. The magazine went on to describe the model as "close to flawless" in their road test. We agree. Come see it and you will too. So give us a call at 941-254-6608.
