1975 Mercedes-Benz Other Additional Info:
1975 Mercedes Benz 240D (W115) 2.4L diesel naturally aspirated OM616.
Unknown mileage as 5-digit odometer did not function when purchased (I have since repaired).
I am the 3rd owner and have had the car since 2017. During part of that time it was my daily driver and I drove it weekly from Raleigh NC to Charleston SC and occasionally to Atlanta GA. More recently I have occasionally driven it to work in Sanford NC, roughly 50 miles one way. This is a cool little car and I hate sell, but I have a surplus of vehicles right now, and this car really should be stored inside which I am unable to do as another project is occupying my garage.
The Good:
-Pretty much up to date on maintenance, I went through and performed a lot of the scheduled items last fall and it really didn't get driven much this winter.
-For a 45 year old car its pretty much bulletproof. In the many miles I've driven it, its never left me stranded.
-Clear NC title
-No inspection required.
-Turns lots of heads and gets lots of attention
Paint is still in decent shape (it has been resprayed at some point)
-I have some of the original documentation including owner manual, window sticker (torn), original bill of sale and some early maintenance records.
The Bad:
- Interior is not abused, but looks like its a 45 year old car with several hundreds of thousand miles. Some trim has come off, the front seats have some tears. The previous owner thought it would be a good idea to cover the steering wheel with some sort of bike grip tape. It should be removed and recovered.
-The idle is pretty unsteady, so it sounds kinda rough when you start it. No issues at cruising speed. I suspect this may be due to a partially fouled injector on cylinder 1.
-It seeps and burns motor oil. I just check it when I fuel up and add as needed. It seems to leak transmission fluid when driven at high speed for an extended period. I have not fully diagnosed this yet. It doesn't leak when parked. When cold the transmission shifts a little hard sometimes. I suspect this is a vacuum regulation issue.
-Drivers rear quarter has some body rust (pictured) that has been progressing slowly over the course of my ownership.
-The trunk (or more accurately antenna) leaks in the rain. This should be addressed to prevent surface rust in the trunk for worsening.
Things that Don't Work:-The clock-The A/C (I'll include a re-manufactured compressor with purchase, bracket is installed on engine)- The Central Locks- The foot pedal windshield washer- The rear defrost
Not a show car, but isn't priced like one. Open to offers.
