For sale is a really nice early W115 220 Diesel. I have owned the car since 1997 and I am the third owner. This car has been garaged in a climate controlled garage on my family's farm in Lambertville, NJ since 1997. This was built in the first year of production in 1968, as with most carmakers the year the car was built may or may not be what is listed on the title, Mercedes-Benz was no different. This car is a “stroke 8 model” (/8). Mercedes did this because the earlier 220 models were still in production at the time the W114 and W115 cars were introduced. The W115 model production run ended with the 1976 model year. Lots of mechanical parts are still available.
This is a USA spec model that has been modified (with original vintage new Hella headlights and fog lights) to look like a European spec model. This car is unusually optioned. It does not have AC, power steering, power windows or the power door locking options. It does have power brakes, Blaupunkt Koln (New Yorker) stereo radio with the signal seeker and two rear shelf mounted Blaupunkt speakers, plus the rare 4 speed manual transmission. The Hirschmann antenna is manual, when fully extended it is nearly seven feet tall. The car is finished in Tobacco Brown (423H) with the MB Tex palomino interior. The car has about 75% of its original paint. The front fenders were replaced with MB factory fenders since they had rusted out at the top of the headlight buckets. The fenders and hood were resprayed; it was not a professional job, but it is presentable. All of the chrome is original to the car. The dash, seat coverings, carpets, door panels and headliner are original to the car; nothing has been replaced or refinished. The trunk has its original gray rubber mat, a complete tool kit including the jack. The dashboard is cracked, but not totally wrecked as in most cars of this age.
The mileage is original, I purchased the car with 116,000 miles and it has 128,587 miles on it today. This car was maintained for all of its life and the items that commonly go or are not maintained have been either rebuilt or replaced. I have extra parts I have picked up over the years that you simply cannot find today. The car has all of its original owners’ manuals, plus the no longer in print form, factory service manuals for the engine and body. This car is not perfect; the original paint does have chips and scratches. The interior is all original as said earlier; so there is some sun exposure damage. This car has no rust damage to its frame and belly pan. It’s a solid #2 car that has great potential to be a concours car. Everything works as it should. It could use a set of tires since what it is on now are about 20 years old. The car was last registered in the early 2000’s however it has been run and driven on occasion to keep it in shape and maintained. It has a clear New Jersey title, plus receipts and related documents/manuals that would be included. Please look at the photos closely; I am sorry that a few are not sharp. The car is priced according to Hagerty Insurance valuation. I own several other classic cars and I asked my Hagerty rep what this car in its condition and age would be worth since I could not find any reliable and consistent valuations.
I am selling the car because the farm is being sold and I am now retired. I want to do other things in retirement.
