Quite a interesting little car, I must admit! This car was purchased by our friends in 1994, from a Mercedes Dealer, with maybe 30,000 miles on it. These are the kind of people that like bragging they have something like this, and talk about it constantly, but never drove it. They'd start it and drive it around the block and to the Dealer for Service. They'd never take it for a Sunday drive or out to dinner for fear of a scratch on it or something like that.
The car became part of a Estate 8 years ago...we ended up with it, I threw a CD player in it and was going to use it as a summer cruiser. I'm too big for the car, the wife hates the color...so we never really used it either.
The paint is all original...the interior is all original. The paint is very nice for 30 years old, as well as the interior...with no significant wear, and commensurate with mileage and age.
In preparation for sale, I had a new battery, brakes, valve cover gaskets, AC Compressor, and various bulbs and such replaced.
Our mechanic, who knows these cars very well...said car had all VIN stickers on all panels including the bumpers, pointed out the zero dash cracks, the original paint, the value in the maintenance book, and the lack of bolster wear. We pulled up the rear carpet and under the "unused" spare to look for corrosion, as these are hidden places these cars rust, and found ZERO. It has the original Diamler windshield too! The mechanic said there is a factory corrosion spray that is still present under the car, and on the engine. He also pointed out the VIN # on the core support.
I collect cars, but this car is not typical of what I collect, so...for someone else it would make a great car, and the color is quite rare.
We've got both tops, and the stand...the only appreciable ding on the car is near the hard top mounting pin...and I put that one there...installing the hard top. That pin is a stupid design! It won't photograph...but there is a little ding, looks like a hail dent.
There might be some minor light scratch here or there from just garage rash in the past, but for a 89, its very well kept.
I looked at eBay completed sales to price the car and I think my starting price is a fair number...
