1973 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Additional Info:
1973 was the inaugural year for the top-of-the-line Mercedes Benz 450SLC Coupe in the United States. As a young Navy carrier pilot, I purchased this perfect, 48,000-mile example in 1988 from a retired and very finicky California aerospace executive, then drove it 3000 uneventful miles home in August heat and humidity to the east coast, where it has remained, finally achieving 70,000 careful miles this year (2018). Both owners always utilized Mercedes dealer service and the unblemished safety and reliability record of this car reflects that knowledgeable care. The coupe is fully equipped : Air Conditioning (R-134 converted), Full Palomino Leather Interior, Webasto Electric Sunroof, Becker Grand Prix AM/FM Radio with Cassette, Cruise Control, Pirelli Tires mounted on Light Aluminum Alloy Wheels. Everything works as advertised excepting the dashboard clock. There has never been any rust or damage. For those of us who have enjoyed other 107 SL Mercedes, the SLC coupe experience -- with its 12" body extension between the wheel wells to allow for second row seating -- is significantly improved on any road surface over the SLs. As the usage of this car should indicate -- 70,000 miles in 45 years -- this coupe has led a very protected life, been kept clean and well-serviced, always stored indoors, never out in winter's snow, ice and salt. If you appreciate the uniqueness of original cars versus restored cars, you are not likely to find a better SLC coupe that has been kept very close to its original production completion c
ondition. My wife and I are retired now and engaged in the inevitable downsizing. We are hoping to find a new owner for this beautiful car who will treat and treasure it as we proudly have over three decades. We apologize that we have no photos to share of the dashboard, interior, engine compartment, trunk or underbody. All will pass a rigorous inspection without flaw but we are not picture takers. Please forward your questions and we will promptly reply. Best of luck to each bidder for this exceptional Mercedes grand touring coupe. On Jun-27-18 at 14:32:50 PDT, seller added the following information:
Added note : Responding to several requests for interior photos, please see the added pictures in that section. The additions include several exterior photos taken this morning just after the coupe was backed out of its garage. This is a no-fooling beautiful original car. Regarding the interior photos, please note the obvious suppleness of the front seat leathers, quite unusual on a vehicle of this age. The suppleness is owed to two factors -- an annual treatment with British "hide food" to preserve and protect and prevent dryness, plus sheepskin covers whenever in actual use (not included). There is also a shot of the engine compartment included. Having intentionally priced this car to sell -- with reasonable buy-it-now and reserve prices, especially when compared to NADA or Old Car Values pricing estimates -- we wish each of you every success in your bidding.
