1993 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 400E Additional Info:
A time capsule from the early 1990's ... This Mercedes 400E has been pampered since day 1. There are receipts available totaling over $21,800 spent in maintaining this car since 2010. Additional receipts going back to 1999, show the ongoing servicing and care which has been put into this timeless example.
Everything works as it should: power windows, power mirrors, power sunroof, retracting headrests etc. Unfortunately as the original carphone dates from another era, it no longer works using modern cell signals. Still, it's pretty cool to have in a 1990's luxury car!
One of the weaknesses of 1990's Mercedes was the 'eco' wiring harness. It has been replaced on this car, so is not a concern.
This solid machine moves effortlessly, with endless power and torque from the Mercedes V8 under the hood. While not quite as powerful as the 500E, the 400E can still embarrass plenty of modern traffic and is a real wolf in sheep's clothing (for a fraction of the price). There are no rattles or noises, brakes suspension and drivetrain all work efficiently and properly.
The paint is original and in excellent condition. There are some stone/rock chips, though they are not noticeable as most were touched up to protect the metal underneath. There is also a small area of touch-up paint on the passenger front fender lip, but again it's barely noticeable (you can only see it if you look closely). It’s covering a small scratch where the fender touched off the entrance to a garage when backing out.
This 400E has been garaged all its life and for 25 year old car, the exterior is amazing.
Similarly, the interior has been exceptionally well maintained. The dash, the wood and the carpets all have a 'new car' look. The leather on the seats is all in great condition, though the driver seat bolster is showing a little wear and could benefit from some basic leather repair/treatment (it's not torn, just part of the surface is rough and adding some color would make it look new again). The worn area is visible in the interior photos. The leather has recently been treated to conditioner and is quite soft/supple.
The verified mileage of 118,326 is confirmed by the stack of service receipts which come with the car (and are also pictured). This Mercedes flew though a recent California Smog test with absolutely no issues.
There is a slight delay when engaging reverse, which I suspect could be cured with a transmission service. It doesn't affect the driving or enjoyment of the car in any way, but I prefer to disclose so potential buyers have all information prior to bidding.
Overall, this is once of the very few E-Class Mercedes from the 1990s which has not only survived, but is in better condition that most cars which are 22 or 23 years younger. It's unlikely there are many other 400E's out there with as strong a service history or in the same amazing condition.
Unfortunately I have to sell as I need to make space for another recent purchase, but the upside is someone else will get to enjoy this unique piece of German engineering.
Please only bid if you are serious about buying and feel free to reach out with any questions - I'll do my best to answer. Best of luck bidding and I look forward to passing this special car to the next owner.
