1980 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 2 Tops, Convertible/Roadster Additional Info:

1980 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Euro-spec. (Only 200 in USA)

Far rarer and more desirable than almost any 107 series Benz, this immaculate, dual overhead cam, narrow bumper, balanced handling model is what Mercedes had in mind for the continuation of the 113 series (Pagoda), cars that are now bringing six figure prices.

To make the 107 more attractive to the V8-crazed United States, Mercedes stuffed a variety of 8-cylinder motors into this model (350, 380, 450, 500, and 560). All of these transformed the 107 from a sports car into a boulevardier, more suitable for cruising than spirited driving.
The Amerispec cars were also subject to smog and safety modifications that detracted from both the styling and performance of this model. For example, the bulletproof, twin cam inline 6 in this car boasts 35 horsepower more than the 380 version imported to the States. The unsightly 5mph U.S. bumpers are nowhere in sight, and the original, beautifully integrated bumpers enhance the whole character of the car, making it far more graceful and elegant.
Most importantly, this Eurospec vehicle is far lighter with more even weight distribution than any 450/380/560SL, which reduces the oversteer and the cumbersome, nose-heavy feeling of the US cars.
Importantly, this car was legally imported into the U.S. and displays all the correct certification plates, etc. It is a long-term, fanatically-owned specimen that has covered only 60,000 miles with every book and service record provided. It is truly pristine inside and out, and is finished in the most attractive color combo of Silver Blue Metallic over biscuit leather.
This car is equipped with two tops, power steering, power disc brakes, power windows, heated seats (rare on this model), factory air conditioning, two radios including the original Becker, original tool kit and jack, owner's manuals in English and German, chrome wheels, chromed metal wheel arches, and more. Note that the chrome accents, which on some cars look flash, on this example with its tasteful color and absence of protruding bumpers, look beautiful.
An extensive record of service in a binder comes with the car, along with articles attesting to the collectability and desirability of this model, especially in Europe where most of these were driven to very high mileage and now are desperately sought after.
Note that this caris equipped witha dual-passenger “Kinderseat” complete with seat belts for occasional rear guests, finished in the same Biscuit material as the rest of the interior. An integrated, but removable wind deflector is another super desirable option for top-down driving. The soft top, by the way, is brand new Hartz cloth in dark Navy blue with a receipt for the install in the records.
If you're looking for a 107 series with maximum appreciation potential, that drives like a true Sports Car, and is appreciating faster than its hampered U.S. brethren, you're looking at the best specimen available.
