1977 Mercedes Benz 450SL Classic White / Blue Leather Well Maintained and Documented VIN: 773-303-61220615 491: US Version 513: Becker Europa Stereo 531: Automatic Antenna 585: Behr Air Conditioner and Electric Windows 592: Heat Insulating Glass and Rear Defrost 467: Central Locking System and English Gauges Color: Classic White (737G) Interior: Blue Leather Evolve Motors & Chicago Car Club are pleased to present this 1977 Mercedes Benz 450SL! We purchased this lovely 450sl from a local gentleman, the car having lived in the suburbs of Chicago since the late 1980s. As it sits, this is a nicely sorted, well-presented example in the fantastic color scheme of white over blue with blue pinstripes and blue soft top. It retains its original equipment, including the Becker Europa II stereo and dash-mounted cassette control, 14” Ronal wheels and spare, Bosch fog lights, and removable hardtop. While the odometer reads 90,342 miles, it is not functional. Though exact mileage is unknown, service records indicate that the odometer stopped working around 1999. We know that the car served as a weekend driver under the previous owner, so between that and the excellent condition of the car, we believe the car hasn’t covered many miles since the odometer failed. In 2006 the car saw a major service, which included replacement of valve cover gaskets, distributor cap and rotor, new Bilstein rear shocks, timing chain tensioner, 8 rocker arms and hydraulic ball studs, idler arm bushings, ignition wires, spark plugs, and a battery. As it sits, the car runs and drives very well, and looks great doing it. Car will be sold with the owners’ manual, removable hardtop, and a handful of service receipts from the 1990s and early-mid 2000s. Exterior: - Paint is very nice throughout. A paint gauge shows readings of 6.0-11.0 all around the car, consistent with one repaint. Repaint is in the correct Classic White with blue pinstripes, and shows very, very well. Paint was clearly done to a high standard, as it appears as factory. No dust under the paint and no overspray. - Blue soft top is new. Hardtop is excellent as well, with no damage other than a small, partial crack in the bottom corner of the rear glass. - 14” Ronal wheels and spare are in very nice shape. Minimal wear. Michelin MXV tires are in nice shape as well, with 9/32” remaining at all four corners (about 80%). - Chrome is very nice throughout. No oxidation or real signs of age. - Black rubber is excellent, shines a nice deep black. No damage or greying. - Glass and light lenses are all clear and crack-free, including the Bosch fog lights up front. - There are two small bubbles at the rearmost part of the driver’s rear wheel well. The insides of the fenders look good, a known problem area on these cars, with nothing more than some very minor surface rust inside the lip of the passenger rear wheel well. Interior: - Seats are in excellent shape. There is one tiny puncture on the driver’s seat bottom, but no other scuffs, tears, or real signs of age. - Carpet is in nice shape. No tears, stains, or damage. - Becker Europa II stereo and dash-mounted cassette deck is functional. Very cool, and instantly noticeable when getting into the car. - The center console material in these cars tend to age at a different pace as compared to the dash. As a result, the color doesn’t quite match the dash perfectly. - Gauges are all functional with the exception of the odometer. - Blower is functional, as is heat. R12 air conditioning is not. Power windows are functional. Under the Hood / Underbody: - Runs and drives extremely well. The ride is smooth, quiet, and comfortable. A real pleasure to drive top-down. - Starts right up first turn, idles cool and steady, pulls nicely through the gears, doesn’t hesitate under acceleration, tracks and brakes straight, and soaks up bumps very nicely without any noises or tendencies of concern. - Please take a look through the underbody photos, as the car is documented in detail. Underbody is in extremely nice shape. It’s very clear that this car has been garage-kept and well cared for. There is absolutely no through rust, just some very minor surface rust on the exhaust, which is to be expected. Please reach out to Jake at 773-303-6122 with any questions, requests, or to discuss purchasing.
