1978 Mercedes Benz SL450 - Euro Appearance spec... 250XXX KM
This has been a long and drawn out project that I can no longer maintain due to space constraints. The vehicle was purchased 3 years ago from what I was told to be the 2nd owner. He had stored it for the last 10 years in a wood working barn before I took it over to restore it to its original glory.
The engine was in decent running shape and I had it tuned and running again with the help of a local shop in Vancouver, a new battery was put in & the transmission was re-built 2 years ago along with the exhaust which was completely re-done from the engine back as the original was not salvageable.
The interior was previously done and the seats look like new. The carpets could use some steam cleaning and love but are overall in great shape. The soft-top is also like new and I don't think ever used... The original hardtop is in storage and matches the vehicle. Also in good shape but does have a split in the paint and would need to be re-done to make perfect. The center dash is in good shape and the original radio is in the trunk.
I post this with a heavy heart as this was an awesome and unique summer driver, but due to changes in life I can no longer juggle having it around and putting the restoration time and money that it deserves. This is a great project car and one that turns many heads due to the unique Euro front end along with the colour combo.
I have one key that is cut for the vehicle along with a blank that needs to be cut. The roof key and books are also available.
The body does show age and some rust areas that should be addressed, the biggest rust is within the front wheel-well and side-skirt as per the photos. Also the tires will need to be replaced but I may even have that done by the time this is posted.
Note - this car is derivable and I drove it quite a bit last 2 summers, on the highway and in the city, but it does require on-going work to get it to a more reliable and deserving level.
Any questions or concerns please let me know. Thanks for reading/looking.
