1992 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Additional Info:
This is a nice 1992 500SL. The common problems with the 500SL have all been addressed with this one. The hydraulics for the soft top have been completely rebuilt with all new seals and the top works fine. Windows regulator motors replaced. Has a new top and a newly rebuilt transmission (none of the reverse gear issues that 500SLs are famous for). Has nice sticky Yokohama performance tires. Seats have some scuffs but are quite good for 92. Cracked strut mounts have been replaced (this is a common problem for the 500SL). There is a small current leak (another famous 500SL issue) that has been addressed with a cutout. All of the vacuum lines and injectors and injector rubber have been replaced.
As an enthusiast I would like to encourage you that if you are looking at a 90's 500SL please make sure that the following items have all been checked (1) does reverse gear work and is not slow to engage (2) have convertible top hydraulic seals been replaced to prevent leaking onto passengers and into interior (3) Are there any visible cracks in the strut tower caps. (4) Are the vacuum lines and injector lines hard and or cracked. These are all extremely common problems with the 90's era 500SL (see the extremely useful mercedes owners forum benzworld dot org / forums / r129-sl-class/ ). All of these issues can be expensive to fix and all have been addressed on this example.
I encourage any potential buyer to come and take a look in person or perhaps to have a third party inspect the car.
Thanks
