1961 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Additional Info:
This is a rare find. I have a passion for the early SL's and own my Dad's original 280sl that he bought new. I've always wanted an "older" one and the 300sl's are out of my price range. I looked for years for the right 190sl. I didn't want to spend the moneythat a fully restored car would cost, nd the other's that were available needed a tremendous amount of engine, lectrical, rake, nd body repair to be safe and reliable. Ironically, fter looking all over the US I found this car 180 miles from my home!! It was exactly what I wanted. The car has been in North Carolina most of it's life and has had regular care. It starts right up, rives, hifts, nd brakes perfectly. Amazingly even all the gauges, urn signals, ights, tc., ork as they did new. The car's numbers match. It doesn't have the Solex carbs, hey have been replaced with Weber's. I do not have the original radio. The body and underside are in good shape and you can look at the pics. One mystery is what's in the glove box. I have not been able to open it. I do not have a lot of documentation on the history of the car. The owner that I purchased it from had it for a short time, s she purchased it from an estate. I was able to talk with a few mechanics that worked on the car in Wilmington,NC, hich is where I purchased it. Everyone has confirmed what I thought, hat's been well maintained. I feel so comfortable with the car that I drive it around with my little boy in it. I've included a picture of the certification from Mercedes Classic center. The original exterior color was graphite grey. Interior appears to be the original color. The driver's seat shows a split. This is actually were the stitching has come apart, ot a rip in the leather. It obviously has a hard top, nd the soft top works great, lthough it will need to be replaced. I also have the original leather tonneau and sun visors. I have the car on a lift in my garage and it's always inside. It's not a 50k rust bucket that "will start" or a 200K show piece. It's simply a great looking car that you can have fun driving, ndthe same time have a great return on your investment. The market continues to rise on the 190sl, nd the only reason this car is for sale is because of a property investment.
