Doris Daisy Diesel is her name, but we call her Daisy. She is much loved by me and admired by passersby of all ages. Sadly, she and I must part. I no longer have a need for a car (I never really did) and can no longer justify the outrageous cost of parking garage space in Manhattan.
Lucky for you.
I purchased Daisy on eBay Motors in 2005 when she had just 103,000 miles on her. (Current mileage is 138,900.) The owner claimed that the car was purchased originally by her neighbor, who taught at colleges in New Jersey (Rutgers and Princeton), used Daisy as his daily driver, and took excellent care of her as demonstrated by the extensive maintenance records that came with the car and that I still have. The woman from whom I purchased the car had purchased the car for her daughter after her neighbor died, but the daughter was not interested in the car, which is how it ended up on eBay Motors originally.
Shortly after purchasing Daisy, she proved herself to be a reliable highway cruiser during a 10,000 mile cross-country road trip in the summer/autumn of 2006. Anyone who is interested in the 240D will know how limited the acceleration and top speed are, but the car will lumber along at 65 or 70 mph for hours on end (until reaching a big hill) and the manual transmission makes Daisy a little faster in acceleration than her automatic transmission-equipped siblings. Aside from the major road trip, she has been used by me only for the occasional shorter road trip, weekend joy rides, and a very rare commute. Throughout my time with her, fuel economy has averaged around 29 mpg.
Daisy runs very well and starts on the first try almost every time, even in the winter months. I can provide receipts from almost all of the maintenance and repairs that have taken place during my tenure and quite a few records from the original owner. She is in good shape on the exterior, with just a few rust bubbles, and on the interior, with the MB-Tex upholstery and no cracks on the dashboard. She has manual windows. Sheep skin front seat covers came with the car and will be yours with the purchase. Although a new radio was installed after I purchased the car, the original Becker AM/FM radio with cassette has been boxed and will also be yours with the purchase. The vacuum system works perfectly – doors and trunk lock automatically.
There are a few items that you will want to repair, which I have outlined in the "Condition" section of this listing and will not repeat here.
Please note that Daisy had about 200 lbs. of LP records in her trunk on the day when the exterior photos were taken (I was clearing out a storage unit), causing the back of the car to appear lower and the front higher in the photos than they are in reality. The suspension is in perfect condition and the car is level.
I have tried my best to tell you as much relevant information as I can about my beloved Daisy, but please contact me if you would like more information. I will try to answer all questions.
I have no ratings and hardly any history on eBay. I have never sold an item on eBay and the only items that I have ever purchased on eBay are this fine automobile (that was done with a different logon ID that used my old work email address, so not even purchase history is available), and a replacement rear quarter window for the car. I don't think that the woman who sold the car to me had any history on eBay either. She told me that some potential purchasers had backed out of the deal because of her lack of history. Their loss was my gain. You will need to have a little bit of trust in me and in Daisy if you are to make this purchase. You will be rewarded with a fine traveling companion. As was I.
