1980 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Additional Info:
I am listing my 1984 (ebay does not recognize the VIN so they required it be listed as a 1980) Mercedes Benz 280GE G wagon for sale. I did not plan on selling this anytime soon although I have decided to move some money into a different venture and listed it for sale. This is a very rare vehicle to find in the states as they were never officially sold here. The G class vehicles are all hand built in Austria (this one was built in the Graz Austria plant) and this car was sold originally in Germany. This particular truck came originally equipped with the 2.8L gasoline engine which has since been replaced by the highly desirable OM617A 5 Cylinder Turbo Diesel which was never offered in the G class vehicles. This engine has been commonly known as one of the most reliable engines ever produced with many reaching over one million miles without ever needing a rebuild. This truck has approximately 180,000 miles so it really is just broken in. In my possession as well as the two previous owners the vehicle has been meticulously maintained with great maintenance records included with the sale.
This truck is truly a pleasure to drive for any enthusiast. It is equipped with a newly rebuilt automatic transmission, four wheel drive, and front and rear hydraulic locking differentials. The transmission shifts smooth although could use a little tuning (yes they are tunable). This will out climb almost anything out there including 4 wheelers and side by sides. The interior has been redone and is much better than stock with very nice leather Recaro seats and even heated seats. The truck is not perfect although it truly is one of the best I have seen in the states. The only other known issues I am aware of is that the temp gauge has recently stopped working and the tachometer intermittently will stop working. If you want to have a truly rare piece of Mercedes-Benz history that no one else will have, this is the truck for you.
I have done my best to describe the vehicle to my best knowledge. This vehicle is sold as is and buyer is responsible for arranging shipping.
May possibly be interested in trades for something cool although mainly looking for cash, just let me know what you have.
