1991 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series 2 DOOR COUPE Additional Info:
1991 Mercedes Benz 300CE - 24-Valve, 135K miles, Highly Desireable Color Combo
Downsizing the car lot at home. 3 Mercedes, 1 Jaguar and 1 Porsche.
I have owned this 300CE for approximately 3 years. The car has been used primarily as a weekend car and kept in carport and garage. As most 90's Mercedes, it is a great driver and has proven extremely reliable with modest upkeep costs. BMWs parts, servicing and reliability is very expensive in comparison to Mercedes of this era.
Highlights
Previous owner spent $4k repainting the vehicle (glass and trim out quality job) in its factory original Mercedes Benz Red finish. The interior is in excellent original condition. No rips or tears, little shoulder bolster wear. All the original wood veneer is in very nice condition, all in its original glossy finish with a couple of the normal cracks associated with vehicles of this vintage. No missing, torn or warped sections in the wood veneer. The headliner is perfect, like new.
Sunroof and all windows work perfectly. All glass is perfect. All chrome, trim and lenses in great shape. The original Becker radio which was switched out for a Kenwood unit will be provided to the buyer. The Power Antenna is in good condition.
The car had valves adjusted, cap, wires and spark plugs replaced by the previous owner, Mercedes Benz local dealer mechanic, right at the time the car was sold to me (approx. 10K miles ago). I have done oil changes every 3K miles, as well as had the battery, alternator and all four tires replaced.
Car mileage may increase during the course of the auction due to leisure use.
Issues
Th A/C needs to be recharged, was working at half capacity. The few paint and body issues are all shown in the pictures (quoted $550 to fix all of them). Previous owner disconnected the last section (tail pipe section) of the rear muffler (no emissions testing in Florida) to make the vehicle sound AMG aggressive. Under the hood, previous owner took most of the hood padding off.
Illustrated Mercedes-Benz Buyer's Guide
"The 300E is among the world's best cars for the driver. Precise steering and comfortable ride make them particularly good long-distance cars. The 300CE's subtle speed makes it almost a stealth bomber."
"Discussing the handling of these cars is academic. Anything that you can do to break them loose on the public road is not only irresponsible and illegal, but also highly unlikely."
"The four-valve engine seen first in the 1990 300CE transforms the car."
Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car - Marketplace Buyer's Guide: 1988-'95 Mercedes-Benz 300CE/E 320 - May 2015Efficient Elegance - Expensive when new and brilliantly engineered, these rare E-class variants make incredible buys
"Many have said that this generation of E-Class cars represents the last old-guard, engineers-in-charge, cost-no-object Benzes, and we won't disagree. That-along with the depreciation that has rendered them shockingly inexpensive "used cars"- makes the Coupe and Cabriolet ideal modern classics to buy now."
"While their close-coupled platform and two-person rear seat make them more intimate than the larger 124 sedan and wagon, the Coupe and Cabriolet are still perfectly accommodating for four adults.
"Their performance figures may be unimpressive compared to today's AMG monsters, but these cars were Autobahn-bread to be rock solid at 130-plus, so they'll certainly suffice for a pleasure drive. The cabins are notably calm and quiet, and the suspensions remain famously planted regardless of the road surface, although notable body roll reveals the standard model is tuned for passenger comfort over skidpad domination."
"These were expensive, low-production cars, and yet thanks to their inherent quality, they enjoy a high survival rate. Being based on the globally popular, immensely proven 124 (nearly 2.74 million variants built!) means that the Coupe's and Cabriolet's mechanicals hold no mystery. They date back to a time when Mercedes-Benz engineered many components to be serviceable."
"Combining efficient, ageless design and a distinctly German take on luxury, the 124 Coupe and Cabriolet are among the Mercedes-Benzes that could truly be considered heirloom-quality. They remain practical for everyday use, and are undoubtedly "youngtimer" classic cars that will be cherished in the future."
