This rare color combination 500E was originally registered in Auburn NH, April 15, 1993 but wintered in West Palm Beach FL where it was finally registered by the original owner, January 16, 2001. The owner then registered the car in Watertown WI with 57,042 miles on May 23, 2001. On December 14, 2005, the car was sold with 71,070 miles to a Florida dealer. On January 19, 2006, the second owner acquired the car and brought it to Cincinnati. The third owner purchased the car in Cincinnati on May 19, 2010, with 124,835 miles. The fourth owner bought the car in Cincinnati, January 5, 2011 and later sold it to a Cincinnati dealer who presented the car for auction at Mecum, Kissimmee FL where I purchased the car with 127,006 miles on February 12, 2013.
The original sticker was $80,000. Only 1,528 of these spectacular cars were imported during their brief run. The fact that they were built in collaboration with Porsche at the Zuffenhausen plant adds to the mystique and collectability of this handmade machine. The dual cam 5 Liter engine produces 322hp and 354 lbf of torque. The flared fenders set it apart from its W124 brethren.
The AMG wheels enhance the stance and appearance. New tires were installed at 136,982 miles, March 2015. Minor repairs have been conducted including window regulator, driver seat cable replacement, tie rod and center link replacement, rear brake pads and regular service. A recent fuel system cleaning markedly improved performance. The transmission shifts with authority. The car was occasionally exercised on I-75 but I must admit I never had the chutzpah to drive it to the max.
The silver smoke finish is eye catching with mussel grey cladding. It looks radiant in the driveway. There are some signs of wear, as is to be expected. There are a few minor blemishes on the roof and one fender. I have never had anyone be dissuaded from complimenting the condition of this 500E and amazed that is has 145,000 plus miles. The tan seats were dyed on the driver's bolster and came out quite remarkably. The woodwork is glowing. The engine compartment is particularly clean. The small amount of work needed to maintain this car is testimony to its good bones. There are service receipts going back to 2005 showing the work done on the car during the past 11 years.
We are reluctantly selling the car as part of a downsizing effort. I am thinning out the collection and making this fine car available to a new owner who can watch it appreciate over the next decade.
A $2,000 deposit will be required within 72 hours of winning the bid. There is a clear Florida title.
I am a member of the Mercedes-Benz Car Club of America in good standing.
