This is a rare find indeed. This vehicle was traded to our dealership, long with an older Buick, y a local gentleman. His health didn't allow him to drive thecars so they became available to us. Unfortunately this car was left unattended for a period of time. The car is nota show car by any means and has some issues which I have detailed in this description. The carhas held up pretty well over the yearsand would make someone a great driver/project.
The interior has rips in the front seats as seen on the pics. I have seen seat cover/carpet packages on ebay for $895 so that shouldn't be too bad to fix. The floor panels also need to be patched/fixed. Each of the floor panels haverust holes including the trunk. The price to fix that would depend on how elaborate you want to fix it. The convertible soft top that is mounted inside the car is worn and sunbaked. The cloth is torn slightly at the seams on the side but the more important problem is that the back window is so sun stained that it is impossible to see through. Maybe it is possible to clean, aybe not. Our thought here was that if you buying this car to drive you would just be driving it with the top down anyway so it may not matter.
Mechanically we found the following: oil pan leaking, lower motor not working, ngine makes clattering when cold, ngine idles high, rivers seat does not adjust, ear diff seal is leaking, rive belts have dry-rot, eeds wipers, nd needs muffler.
The paint has imperfections as well. It does have chips and scratches and shows the 40 years of wear. I'm not sure if it was repainted at some point in it's life, ut it doesn't look bad for its age.
The odometer reads 73,082. The title lists "EXEMPT" for miles.
I'm just trying to be clear with what we found. Keep in mind that we are a Ford dealership and do not repair Mercedes vehicles on a normal day.
Overall the summary would be this; this 1976 Mercedes Benz 450 SL does need some work, ut would be a GREAT PROJECT for someone. Take the hard top off and drive a classic Mercedes for not much money. The little things can be repaired over time.
The age of this vehicle will probably make financing this car out of reach. Please make sure you have your finances in order before you place a bid. If you have any questions regarding the car please feel free to call us at 570-784-1414. Ask for Bill
