1972 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series Additional Info:
This is a very special 1972 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 4.5 Sedan.Only two owners, original owner flew to Germany in October 1971 and proceeded to drive it in Europe for a few months and then shipped it to California. It has lived in California or Arizona its entire life.
Extraordinary care has been given throughout the years to maintain and preserve the originality and condition of this vehicle. It still has the factory paint, interior and nearly everything else. The only changes to this car since Rolling off the factory line are new tires, headliner, seatbelt upgrade. Replaced rubber trunk mat and newer gas cap ( original one still with car). This car was left alone so much even the first aid kit appears unopened and remains enclosed by it original 1972 plastic wrapper. This Mercedes even has its original Sales Brochur, US and German sales documents, transportation and possession documents, US dealer paperwork, 1972 newspaper clippings, even its original registration .
The original paint is I excellent condition with very minor pitting in the front and the rubber is in excellent shape. All chrome looks fantastic with some slight cloudiness on the rear bumpers and the front grill is amazing for a 43 year old car.
It fells like a new car once inside as well. The wood dash is nearly perfect. All flooring and door panels are equally as impressive. The AM/FM Becker Europa radio is original. The floor model gear shift is desirable and it sits next to the four power window controls. Arm rests are adjustable up and down with a tray for storage underneat, there's also an extra armrest that can be inserted where the storage tray lies between the two seats. The air conditioning blows ice cold air.
This car drives very smoothly down the road without pull and brakes evenly. It is also surprisingly quiet without any rattles or grinding. The vehicle has only 86.350 miles and is equipped with variable power steering and four power disk brakes. The V8 engine is strong and clean. Front and rear suspension is good as are the exhaust and driveline. Everything works as it should except foe the clock on the dash. The original jack and tools are present.
Many of the service records are available . The rear suspension and heater hose were serviced along with oil changes and a radiator cleaning . The car has maintained properly and professionally as needed over its pampered life.
Overall this Mercedes-Benz is in exceptional condition both mechanically and cosmetically. Many believe this is the last of the best built Mercedes with very little plastic and modern day performance . This car has sentimental value for its current owner who is hopeful the new owner appreciates and cares for it as much as it has been cared for since 1971.
We welcome and recommend personal inspection of this car.
