1974 Mazda Rotary Pickup Additional Info:

1974 Mazda REPU (rotary engine pickup).

Truck is far from how it rolled off the assembly line.

Super rare 4x4 conversion (likely done when new or early in life) with early bronco parts. Has a ford 9” rear end, dana 30 front end, and a divorced dana 20 transfer case. Suspension is leaf sprung in the rear and radius arms with coils in the front. Wheels are 5X5.5 bolt pattern. Look up what you can find on ford courier sasquatch to get an idea of the conversion.

I have owned the truck for over 9 years and it has never failed to start or get me around. I bought it as a 4x4 project and something to just take to the hardware store and have just not had the time to work on so it has been primarily sitting for the last 5 years. Odometer shows 949 miles but it has rolled over so I believe it to be 100,949 (the speedometer cable broke when I owned it and I have maybe put another 1000 miles on it since it broke and at most about 5000 miles over the past 9 years).

The engine is a 1.3 liter rotary from a 1984-85 GSL-SE RX7 with a 5 speed ribcase transmission. Truck starts, runs, and drives but being a 45 year old truck needs work. Oil injection has been removed so you need to mix the oil with the gas when you fill up. No power steering or power brakes just like most trucks in the 70s.

Great project for anyone that likes rotary engines or looking to build a unique truck or rock crawler that is smog exempt. I have a W59 toyota transmission with transfer case that I will give to the buyer that I was planning to put in the truck (will bolt up with an adapter kit that still needs to be purchased).

Clean California title in hand with current registration.

Below is a list of the main concern areas I see with the truck.

The back of the cab has been cut out to make a walk through to the bed area (previous owners made a plywood back). Sunroof has been cut into the roof which will leak in the rain or if you wash the truck. Tires are old and while they still hold air and have tread I would not want to be driving on southern California freeways on them. Brakes are a little soft (maybe this is just how 4 wheel drum brakes feel but I think could use a bleed and adjustment). Wiring is old and has been modified to make things work. Leaks oil from the engine, transmission, and transfer case. The carb leaks slightly and truck has a stumble off idle. Rust in typical place for most vehicles (repairable but I think the hood should just be replaced). Transmission cross member is a poor design and a new one should be made. Pretty bad exhaust leak. Fan/heater controls have been removed from truck. Windshield has a crack.

I can help with getting the truck to a local shipper and if you are not too far may be able to deliver on a trailer at your expense.
