1990 Mazda MX-5 Miata Additional Info:
This car is ONLY for a restore.
You will not be able to drive it way.
You will not get any plates.
You will not get the window sticker.
You will have to tow it away on a flatbed.
You will have to let me take a picture of your license.
You will have to sign the Texas form I need to prove we do not know this thing anymore.
Wheels and tires are from Tirerack.com September 2008 (mounted and balanced and shipped to house) ( I love tirerack ). Should replace tires even though a lot of treadwear depth.
Kosei 14 inch K1-TS light grey painted (I love this wheels)
Kumho 185/60R14 Escta LX 82H
Original engine/transmission and rear end.
I changed the oil with synthetic since wife and I met in 1995.
I changed the rear differential with synthetic Mobil1 75w-90 every 30K at least.
Change manual transmission also with Mobil1 75w-90 every 30K.
I have new coil but not installed yet. I have another set of spark wires (somewhere).
Transmission is great.
Original alternator.
Original strut assemblies.
Original brake lines.
Original calipers.
Timing belt and water pump replaced at 80K or 90K.
New radiator in last 5 years.
Fuel filter sometime in last 8 years.
On third clutch. Miata has the best feeling clutch/shifter.
Car runs rough. Not sure if pass inspection.
It wouldn't re-start on me last year leaving my office in Irving.
Sometimes to start it I have to put in gear move it an inch then starter works.
Starter needs replacement but a nightmare on this car.
Need a lift to work on this thing.
Good news .... No check engine light. Since it is a 1990 No OBD-II for emissions testing just a tailpipe sniffer when testing in Texas.
It has passed every year here in DFW metroplex.
Cover to ECM is out (repainted to stop the rust). ECM is at the foot of passenger floorboard.
Needs engine seals replaced (oil pan for sure and rear engine seal could wait ), drips oil (totally annoying).
When we did the clutch last, had him replace that rear seal.
Car does not smoke.
I replaced the AC to upgrade to R-134a in last 10 years or so. Cost me 19xx.xx ...I was angry.
We are on the third top a Robbins product with solid glass rear window.
This new top installed March 2011.
But it is a headache to get the top to fold down with glass window. Still should always get glass.
Seats are good condition.
We had the passenger seat re-vinyled the top/backside and backpocket. The guy did a great job. Luckily to have him available.
We replaced the shifter/armrest console with a mossmotors.com aftermarket one ...two smallish cupholders... but worth it. (I have the original console rotting in the attic).
Center dash console needs to be redone. stereo just lays in it. Looks like crap. Nice Alpine speakers in the door though.
Speakers embedded in the seats are non-functioning and don't sell them anymore but don't need them.
Dash is cracking from age/UV. Has a dashmat.
Replaced the bezel over the instrument cluster though.
Wipers move slow. I replaced the wipermotor. Issue is in the steering column wiper stalk...internal contacts are dirty but needs a new one...not cheap.
Drivers door window is tight to roll up or down. I got a new track system for it but not installed .
Pop-up headlights work great never had an issue.
You want a original 90 miata ...this is it.
Take the engine out and clean it up.
Replace the suspension.
Replace all rubber brake lines and get new calipers.
Repaint it. We did a Maaco paint job back in April 2007 ( not great but inexpensive). If you have time and a workshop, I suggest doing yourself ...modern day paints are awesome products.
You need to take hood and truck lid off and power wash their underside. The truck needs a power wash also.
Replace the front panel with the Taiwan aftermarket I bought (in my attic) (comes with car) or fix the original fender.
I loved driving this stick....if I ever own another manual it will have to be a miata.
Texas car. 1992 when wife bought it here in Dallas. She drove to work and home in 90s. After having the kids it got even less.
I have paper work to show year after year emissions, registration, different repairs, top replacements, clutch replacement...big fat folder worth of stuff.
No rush to sell this.
I want someone to redo this and then drive it.
I want a Miata enthusiast to love this car like my wife did and I learned to (i'm 6' 4" but this car is a blast to drive and safer than my 2010 Kawasaki Vulcan 900).
I have the original glovebox manual and aftermarket manuals.
