For Auction is my 1985 Mazda RX-7 GSL-SE 13b
I'm going to make this auction as detailed as possible, but easy to read. I suggest that you read through the entire description and ask questions before bidding.
GSL-SE: I'm not going to get into too much detail on what the 1st gen RX-7 is or the GSL-SE variant (you can use Wikipedia for that). I assume you clicked my auction because you are looking for a 1st gen and you know that the GSL-SE is the pinnacle of the first gen RX-7. Can you make a 12a fast and fun? Sure, but why not start with the best of the best that the 1st gen has to offer and get the top of the line GSL-SE to start, with the "big" 13b fuel injected rotary?
New or recently replaced parts:
Items that may need attention: Ok, so I'll let you in on a secret. This car is not a built race car nor is it a cream puff, showroom, restored classic (if you are looking for that, this is not the car for you, and you must have a fat wallet). I have loved and driven this car for the better part of the last decade. It has been my daily driver for 7 years and has not let me down. The list of issues is so that you know everything that can be improved on this car, not to scare you away. It is a 32 year old car! The following list of items I have lived with, but you may choose to address based on what you are planning on doing with this car. This is everything I can think of:
I want to be very clear, these are mostly "nit-picky" issues. I don't want you to have any surprises. This is a 30 year old car and these are issues I have lived with. But this is full disclosure. The car drives great as is!
Drivetrain: As mentioned, this has the magnificent 13b rotary mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Makes for a high revving, light weight, RWD, the perfect recipe for a sports car. The drivetrain is the gem of this particular car. It runs great, no issues with the clutch, engine, or transmission. Low original miles.
Suspension and Brakes: This car handles great and stops well. In the not to distant future it is going to need new brake pads and struts. Again, you can drive this car away with confidence, but those will be future issues to consider. Since I don't know if you are going to drive this car as is or turn it into a race car, I will let you decide how you want to set it up.
Interior/Exterior: The car is in overall pretty good shape. I've pointed out the paint issues, minor body damage, and interior issues above. It comes with a Hammond louver (sp?), 2 sunroofs (1 glass 1 metal) the metal one has dings, the glass one is missing a bracket (cheapreplacement part) comes with the factory storage bag. The Hammond louvre is pictured on the vehicle, but it is not attached at the moment (will come with the car).
Misc: I have a few spare parts to throw in like coils, extra distributer, new Energy Suspension control arm bushings, and whatever else I can find that goes with it.
Why am I selling this car? I have a wife and 2 young kids. Unfortunately classic 80's Japanese sport cars are notconducive to family life. The car does not get driven as much as it should. A Rotary engine needs to be driven, and revved, and redlined and I'm just not able to do that any more. This needs to be in the hands of a rotary enthusiast, it deserves to be.
Price: I am starting bidding at $3000 with no reserve, this is the absolute minimum that I would accept to part with this vehicle. I believe it is worth much more than that (look at other GSL-SE that have sold on EBay). Please do not try to offer me less than the opening bid. If you want the car cheaper than the opening bid, then perhaps a 12a is more in your price range. If you want the bestversion that1st gen offers, the GSL-SE, then have fun and happy bidding.
You made it to the end of my "book". You can tell I am a RX7 enthusiast. I want this car to go to another enthusiast, if you have more questions send me a message and I will give you my phone number to answer any questions you may have. Do not bid on this car if you don't plan to follow through; that means communication, prompt payment, and prompt retrieval of the car.
