1969 Lotus Elan Series 4 Additional Info:
What you are viewing is an insanely spectacular '69 Elan with a no expense spare performance restoration and a bit of historical significance. This incredible Elan is extremely dialed in and very well sorted. No corners were cut in this build, and every meticulous step was documented and photographed. In researching the build of the vehicle, we believe that we have uncovered that this was the final '69 Elan S4 produced. While working with a factory historian on the vehicle we have found that the VIN on this particular S4 is three vehicles beyond what the factory thought was the final VIN before Lotus switched to the newer VIN system that began with the Elan Sprint in 1970. The intricate restoration was meticulously documented with hundreds of photos and every receipt was saved. All service records and receipts are present dating back to the 70's. This car was purchased and lived in San Francisco and Northern California it's entire life. The original Lotus Twin Cam powerplant was rebuilt by Flowspeed with forged internals, flowed heads, Isky Billet Camshafts, 10.4:1 compression and dynoes at 141.5hp with 120ft/lb of torque. Clutch is beefed up, and the flywheel is lightweight alloy making this Elan rev fast and pull hard. The higher CFM Webers are perfectly synced, and this Elan starts everytime without the slightest press of the accelerator. The body is near flawless and is finished in Lotus Yellow featuring a lightweight bonnet and trunk lid. The frame was refinished and like the 26R was reinforced with the addition of 52 gussets to add rigidity. The interior was completely replaced using OEM Lotus material to recover the existing OEM seats. The Fiddlewood dashboard was customer fitted, and show the addition of a modern sound system and a Mota-Lita steering wheel. Additional safety additions include 4 point harnesses, side impact beams, a painted steel rollcage, emergency power cut-off, and fire extinguisher. Every nut and every bolt was rebuilt, refurbished or replaced, every piece was either OEM or aircraft grade, and all lines are braided stainless steel. Headlamps are the fixed high output lamps from the 26R, as well. The suspension and running gear received the same level of attention with externally 4-way adjustable coil-over shocks with lightweight springs. Driveline was updated to CV joints. Wheels are Panosport Knockoff Alloy wheels powder coated in black. Staying true to Colin Chapman's philosophy, everything that could have been lightened safely was, from the lightweight Tilton starter and lightweight alternator, to the lightweight Odyssey battery. At the end of the day, every aspect of this Elan was completed to the highest standards. Over $150,000 was spent on the restoration. This was a restoration of love and not one performed with the idea that this Lotus would ever need to be sold. As our in-house Classic Lotus technical expert said when he first laid eyes on her, "This is the nicest Elan I've ever seen..."Our site posts content to many other sites all over the world.
