Offered for sale: 1968 Lotus Elan S4 SE Fixed Head Coupe in excellent condition.
My name is Tom Walko. For years I own and operated That Foreign Car Place where we specialized in servicing Lotus sports cars. I have owned, taken care of, and raced many Elans and Euporas along with TVRs and other British cars. I know a really good Elan when I see one. I personally own an S4 roadster and I race an S2 Elan vintage race car and this Elan FHC is the best driving Elan I have come across.
What makes it so great? The 1600cc twin cam engine is rebuilt with .20 oversize pistons. It makes great power and torque and runs smooth as can be. The 4-speed gearbox has perfect synchros and a new shifter bushing. It is perfect. The chassis and suspension are original Lotus. The handling is just as Colin Chapman intended. The disc brakes bring the car to a stop quickly, straight and without squeal. Finally, the closed hardtop design is weather-proof, quieter, and feels more solid than open cars. It is also more rare.
The Lotus Yellow paint is very good. There is one touched-in stone chip on the nose. The black interior is also very good with an excellent wood dash. The dash top has no cracks. The headliner is clean and tight.
The car is fitted with correct pin-drive alloy wheels with Firestone 165/70/13 tires. A jack and special knock-off tool are included in the sale.
The parking lights, vacuum headlights, turn signals, brake lights, interior lights, etc all work.
If you think I am exaggerating how nice this car is, it won 2nd Place in class at the national 2016 Lotus Owners Gathering concours in August.
This car is a real joy. It needs nothing. I am happy to talk to you about it. Give me a call on my cell: 908-300-1869.
By the way, the odometer reads 10,871 but I don’t know the actual mileage. Also, some people think that this is the yellow Elan coupe that belonged to Jimi Hendrix bassist Noel Redding. There is a photo of Jimi leaning on the front bonnet. Maybe it was this car, maybe not.
Please remember that the final price does not include shipping. NJ buyers must pay NJ 7% sales tax. I will not allow the car to be picked-up or shipped until I am 100% satisfied that I have been paid in full. Sold “As Is - Where Is.”
