1959 Lincoln Continental Additional Info:
I am the fourth car collector owner of this beautiful 1959 Lincoln Continental Mark IV. The previous two owners were close friends of mine and I have known the car for 35 years while in their care and I have owned itfor 11 years. The car had been carefully maintained for many years and I have files of maintenance records going back to the early 1980's. I drove and enjoyed the car for five years and then decided to have the car painted since the interior was so beautiful but the exterior was beginning to show its age. A very high quality re-paint in the original black was completed 5 years ago. At that time most of the rubber and weather stripping was replaced with correct reproduction products. I put a new set of BF Goodrich 9.50 X 14 Silvertown bias ply 2inch whitewall tires on the car in 2015. The car has probably been driven only 200 miles on these new tires. The car has never been truly detailed but the engine compartment and underside of the car are presentable. The trunk liner is the original and shows stains and discoloration from age and use. I think the dual exhaust components were replaced around 2005 or 2006. The belts, hoses, clamps and such are in good shape. The mileage as stated is correct and original. The interior is beautiful and very striking with Chinese red leather and black brocade fabric inserts. The fabric and leather are in great shape showing little wear. The carpet is original and is in very good condition. The molded components of the dash are not cracked but show some distortion due to the ageing of the foam below the covering. You can see this in the pictures. The headliner is very good and the glass is also very good. The interior door panels are near perfect. The interior chrome and stainless are near perfect. The exterior chrome (of which there must be 600 pounds!) is excellent for the age of the car, showing minimal pitting or wear.
The car has always driven and ridden like a dream. Once you get use to the substantial size of the car, you would find it a joy to drive. Currently I believe the carburetor is in need of a re-build to maintain the car's great driving capabilities and habits. The rear passenger side window has recently stopped working and we plan to fix that. This car has 7 power windows - the two vent windows, the front and back side windows, and the rear Landau window which allows flow thru ventilation. In some vintage ads for these cars it would show well dressed ladies in the rear seat with their cigarette smoke wafting out of the breezeway rear window.
This car although not a perfect show car, is really stunning and receives a tremendous amount of attention. Most people have never seen one of these cars and this one in its combination of black exterior and redand black interior is outstanding. This car was invited and was shown at the prestigious Pinehurst Concours d'Elegance in Pinehurst, North Carolina in May of 2015.
Here are a few facts about the car: Price when new was around $ 8000. The engine is 430 cubic inch and produces 350 horsepower. It has a 3 speed Turbo-Drive Automatic Transmission. The car weighs approximately 5,600 pounds and is just over 19 feet long. This beautiful car is one of only 15,780 Continental Mark IVs produced in 1959, making it quite rare. The interior room is very generous and in fact can seat four abreast in the front and back seats unless the people are generously proportioned.
The car is located at my home in Salisbury, North Carolina, which is about 45 minutes north of Charlotte on I-85. I will be happy to answer any questions either by e-mail or by phone. My e-mail address is:imperialghia@netscape.net and my telephone is 704-754-3853. Thank you for your consideration.
