Upfront, I am assisting a close friend of mine with the sell of his 1939 Lincoln Zephyr. He struggles with technology for one, and two has had very little opportunity to drive this car. He has several classics in his collection and has decided it's simply time to reduce his stable and workload. I will be able to connect any potential buyer with him as needed as well as me being able to answer most questions. The clean and clear title is in his name and his home state of Florida but it has been stored in my garage for the past 6 months. I have taken it to a car show or two and while at the show or on the way it gets unbelievable attention. The first question always is "What is this"? So, let's start there.
Speedster Motorcars of Florida decided around 2005-2008 to build out 50 Custom 1939 Lincoln Zephyr builds. Manufacturing them all essentially the same, they built rectangular tube chassis with triangulated 4-Link rear suspension and tubular A-Arm front suspensions. They came with adjustable coil overs and disc brakes on all four corners. The installed 5.3 Vortec Fuel-Injected Chevrolet V8's mated to 4L60 Transmissions (Automatic with Overdrive). This one has Power steering, power windows, power door poppers, power disc brakes, Power wipers, tilt wheel, Cold AC, E-brake, horn and a stereo of which all works as of this writing.
It gets a bit fuzzy from there but as I understand it, they then sold the cars to other customizers to put the finishing touches to the cars. This car was one of four that went to the infamous Bourget Bike Works (BBW) in Phoenix, AZ. They apparently purchased (4) cars and built them all almost identical in paint scheme, interior, under hood, etc... In fact, I found that RK Motors initially listed, I believe the #1 car for $240k. You will find the BBW placards on this car in a few places. I am not sure which number of the 4 cars this one is but I am certain it's not the #1 car.
When I have been out in it, it's crazy then number of pictures taken and with its awesome looks, and if I do say so myself, it's understandable. You will always be the ONLY ONE at a show regardless of the event size which is nice. It drives out well but does require a bit of attention of your surroundings. The car does show 17k miles on the odometer confirming it has indeed been a driven car which is good and what they are for. My understanding was that the previous owners (same family) had for 10 years or so. My buddy has owned the car a year or better I believe... it is located in my garage in Knoxville, TN and can be viewed here as well as picked up here after working out terms with the owner.
Now for the bad... no vehicle is perfect and certainly not older cars / builds. The speedometer is currently not working, it was when I received the car but has since stopped (It could be a fuse?). Also, at a show 2 weeks ago, it started sprinkling rain, another friend ran over to run the power window up on the driver's side and when he shut the door, it somewhow went a hair too far up and cracked the glass at the back of the panel. Included is a New replacement glass panel. There are a few paint blemishes (hard to find but there upon very close inspection. And lastly, there are a few rattles on rough roads... I think it likely just needs a bolt check to cure. Overall for an 18-20 year old driven build, it's very nice.
This all said, I always encourage if possible to come see the vehicle in person... I have a lift and you can inspect the car in anyway desirable. The seller will want either cash or a wire transfer to his account as again, I am just assisting him with the sell of the vehicle.
