1966 Lincoln Continental Convertible Additional Info:

1966 Lincoln Continental Convertible For consignment, this long 123 inch wheelbase, shared B-pillar 4 door convertible has plenty of Detroit iron to feast your eyes on. Just watching the top go up and down is worth the price of admission! This beauty is bathed in nice newer, (2022), black paint, has plenty of chrome and has a new front and rear suspension, new brakes and master cylinder, and drives like a dream. Oh and did I mention the correct 462ci V8 to barrel you down the highways and byways of this great country. Only in 'Merica! Exterior Plenty of straight steel games grow ever increasingly more beautiful as you see a horizontal ribbed grille, dual headlights and a lower massive chromed bumper adorning the corner edges of the front of the car. The front quarters sport some Continental chromed badging and wheel well edge trimmings. A top trim piece runs along the edge and continues from stem to stern on that top edge, running through the doors and bumping up to the trunk and rear quarter edge. The car has a somewhat squarish design, but yet retains enough curvaceousness to still be that sexy long look. A slightly curved front glass trimmed by a wide edging running the entire surround of said glass. This frames the front edge of the black canvas convertible top which is showing a few rips and small tears, as well as slight fading. It does prove to move up and down into the trunk flawlessly. Shades of the Skyliner with this process. Another unique feature os the shared B pillar for the doors, making the rear door of the suicide nature. But don't worry there is a warning light to alert you if any are not securely latched! Wide whitewalls wrap 15 inch turbine style wheel coverings and add to the luxurious genre going on. Interior Top down I swing the safe like doors and am greeted with black leather uppers, some curved chromed trimming and a massive armrest with some wood appliqué, a Lincoln badge and many convenience toggles and buttons. I slip inside on top a duo of large wide leather seats which share a common seat with a central armrest, and some split backs. These are wonderfully aged and are very supple and comfy with their tuck and roll panels and smooth bolsters. They are power adjustable in many directions. A rear bench proves just as welcoming and supple as well as comfy. Upfront the dash has a unique design with its horizontal rolling indicator bar speedo in the center on top, and then a large angled panel supporting the steering column on its bottom. Within the panel are two radio like control panels, one the actual radio and the other for climate and wipers. Air vents surround this area as well as a continuing horizontal ribbed panel which houses a smoking station and a rectangular clock in front of the passenger. A smooth glovebox is just below the clock. Pristine and clean black carpeting floods the floors and all is well with this luxurious and accommodating space interior. Drivetrain A front hinged flip off the long hood and I am greeted with a very clean engine bay housing a large 462ci V8. It has a large blue single snout cleaner covering a 4-barrel carb just underneath. On the back is a smooth C6 3-speed automatic transmission, and way back is a Ford 9 inch 2.80 conventional rear axle. Most cars from this era one can look right through the engine bay, but this car with the AC and other options has a gaggle of wiring and hoses to run those conveniences. All is buttoned up right down to the FoMoCo washer bag! Undercarriage All rustproofed and looking good underneath with a heavily coated unibody frame and floor pans. The exhaust is clean and sound, and the car floats on independent coil springs in the front and leaf springs for the rear both being all new. New power disc brakes are on the front, and power drums for the rear with a new master cylinder Drive-Ability The car fired right up and off to the test I drove with the look of success. Here the car performed wonderfully, had great power, and a very smooth ride with the new suspension. Braking was spot on, and the top moves beautifully in cooperation with the automatic trunk lid. The AC blew cool but not cold, and the driver's power vent window was non-functional. When behind the wheel of this beauty, I feel like a Kennedy as one of these cars will always harken back memories of Hyannisport and the Marblehead neck and Martha's Vineyard. Tooling around town in the ultimate success machine.
