1961 Lincoln Continental with 46k miles, suicide doors, super clean car garage kept. If you've been looking for a Continental the ‘61 is the most desirable year to have. Some of the reasons being is, first year of suicide doors, the only year with fold down A/C vents, JFK was assassinated in 1963 but he was in a ‘61 Continental. The T-Bird front nose with waffle grill has made the ‘61 a highly sought out year. NOTE: there are no other '61s for sale (much less this clean and unique) on EBAY at the time of this post
Exterior: Both front and rear bumpers have been triple plated rechromed. Paint is single stage antique white which I like given the era of the car. Not perfect but excellent driver quality - I would rate it as an 8 out of 10. All glass on the car is original and in perfect condition - FoMoCo logos on all panes, chrome and stainless are in excellent condition, except for the two rear quarter grille chrome trim has some pitting (which is hard to even see being it is under the trunk lid). Headlights high beam low beam all work, including tail lights, running lights, turn signals, backup lights, tag light and dash lights all work. No dents, no dings, no scratches.
Motor: 430ci 3 speed automatic transmission. The motor has been completely gone through, new gaskets, freeze plugs, clutch fan, belts, new carburetor rebuild kit, new exhaust manifolds, new manifold gaskets and new motor mounts. New dual exhaust with flo-masters, really nice sound not too loud. New factory AC but with updated sand style compressor, new vacuum lines, rebuilt power steering box, rebuilt fuel sending unit, cap, rotor, condenser, spark plugs and plug wires. New front disc brake conversion with new booster, proportioning valve, and stainless steel brakes lines throughout the car, motor runs incredibly strong and smooth and the transmission shifts perfectly. The rear end has new axle bearings, wheel cylinders, and differential gasket with new gear oil.
Suspension: The ‘61 Continental has a rear adjustable 4 link suspension with 4 Firestone Airbags with 3/8" air lines, with a 10 way switch box old school style. Car lifts and lowers fast, two chrome Victor compressors with 6 gallon air tanks all hidden in the trunk. Fabrication for air ride includes, mini tub rear end, raised driveshaft tunnel, notch trunk pan, and notch gas tank. Leaf springs were removed. The driveshaft tunnel was cut out and raised, the trunk pan is notched and gas tank notched for the rear end to sit level with the front of the car. The rear 4-link suspension was reinforced with the unibody of car then mini tubbed. All ball joints have been replaced up front when the air system was installed. Adjustable 4 link was installed, all front and rear suspension parts were powder coated gloss black including oil pan, valve covers, breather cover and radiator overflow reservoir.
If you are familiar with these cars, getting the rear end to lay flat on the ground requires a lot of fabrication. Most Continentals you see with air ride are higher in the rear then in the front.
Wheels: The wheels are 22" Avus 3-piece with offset in rear. Wheels alone cost over $6,000.00.
Interior: Interior was completely redone with the original stitching pattern put back . Black loop carpet throughout with black leather and Ostrich, and a black suede headliner - all of which are in excellent condition. Ostrich was also put in doors and dash inserts where thin wood paneling used to be. Everything works on car, gauges, speedo, power seats, power windows, vacuum door locks, horn and AC. The only thing not working is the clock. The 61 Continental is the only year with fold down air condition vents from dashboard.
Stereo: The Continental has a custom audio system which includes a BlueTooth Alpine monitor with a custom mount panel, did not cut dash, speakers on doors were custom moulded in with factory door panels which have two pairs of Boston Pro's up front and 1 pair in rear doors. In the back trunk are 4 12" JLW6s with 2 JL 1000/1 Amps for subs and 2 JL 450/4 for mids and highs with 2 Optima Batteries. 220V alternator, The whole trunk compartment has been Dynamated and has a custom ostrich inner trunk panel with the Continental logo - a must see. The rear seat armrest was removed and is now used as a port for subs. I don't need to tell you how loud the stereo is, but if you are interested... YOU'LL HEAR IT!
Underneath: The entire undercoating of this car has been stripped and treated with rust preventive and then sanded and re undercoated to ensure years of durability and useability.
Summary: The pictures taken are great but don’t do this car any kind of justice - you have to see it to truly appreciate it. Everything on this ‘61 Continental has been professionally done - absolutely no shortcuts. I have a lot of time and money into this car, and these cars are not cheap to restore or work on. You don't just go grab a catalog and start ordering repo parts. I am very meticulous when it comes to my projects, Just so you know everything is done first class. This Continental has been used in several weddings and tons of photo shoots (for major companies) and can't take it anywhere without someone starting a conversation about it. I am probably leaving out some things so if you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me. The Continental has always been kept in a climate control garage.
Comparison: Do your homework and look for '61 Continentals - there really aren't many around much less this clean and unique and for sale. This is an opportunity to own a unique and awesome '61 that was meticulously done with no expense spared!
!!! NOTE !!! I'm open to trades for a boat of equal value.
Let me know if you have any questions - Best of luck!
