1942 Lincoln Continental Additional Info:
1942 V-12 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet . The 1942 V-12 Cabriolet represent the most rare variant of the V-12 Continental line. Production of the '42 was cut short due to America's entry into World War 2 in December of 1941. The manufacture of the V-12 came to and end in February 1942 with just 136 cabriolets produced out of a 336 total Continental production run. This exceptionally clean and well maintained example is just out of 15 years of single ownership. The owner is not only a collector of V-12 Lincolns but a leading and longstanding member of the V-12 club. He has for many years run one of the foremost parts supply companies specifically for these cars. His knowledge is encyclopedic and has been involved with the parts and restorations of Lincoln V-12s around the world. You could not find a more knowledgable owner with the unique resources at hand to maintain one of these cars. The car, over his ownership has received a complete refurbishment. In that time it has turned maybe 100 miles. ( the mileage listed is a filler for ebay. Real mileage is unknown) The paint, interior and NOM V-12 have all been redone. The chrome is in excellent condition, The unusual color combination of tan and red interior really sets this car apart. It has always been stored inside and has never seen inclement weather. The interior is the original shade of red leather and has some wear to the front seat pad. The rest of the interior is excellent. All trim, latches, knobs and buttons are there and mostly original. All gauges work as they should. The dash is perfect as are the Wilton carpets. The same level or trim and quality extends in the never used trunk area which is replete with tools, jack and books. The tan top is new and very nice. Never put down, it retains its original taut feel. There is minimal surface rust on a few of the grommets and a small spot or two on the top. The chrome top mechanism is excellent.Exterior is very nice. The original shade of tan paint shows nicely with minimal imperfections as one would expect over time. All trim, badges, mirrors and hubcaps are present and excellent. The V-12 rides on a set of wide white wall radials. There is no rust, surface or through anywhere on the body. The chassis is very clean. It is very solid needing no repair. There may be some surface imperfections, but these are not structural and could be compounded or otherwise cleaned away. The inner fenders are clean and rust free. The exhaust is new. The gas tank is a repro item. Suspension and brake are up to spec and work well. The non matching numbers V-12 was rebuilt recently under the supervision of the current owner. It fires right up, runs very well without smoke, horrible noises or overheating. The engine compartment has been detailed. The paint on the walls and firewall is excellent. The car currently runs a modern Ultima battery. This will have a Lincoln battery cover on it at the time of sale. The Borg Warner overdrive transmission has no issues. All in, this is an exceptional opportunity to buy a car with unheard of longterm ownership by an industry leader. A car which has received the best of everything with very little use. It is not a concours car but is very show worthy and could easily be taken to a higher level. To find a car of this caliber that can be driven and enjoyed proudly is very rare today. We are listing two other Lincolns, a 1940 and a 1947 in very similar conditions with very similar histories. Please contact us for further information. We will listen to all reasonable offers.
