1981 Lincoln Mark Series Givenchy Edition Additional Info:
An extremely special and rare treat for Lincoln gurus, WOW .. with a super hard to find option, the sunroof which DOES not leak.
This classy full-size is a well-preserved time capsule that's only covered 57,000 miles in its lifetime. If you've been on the lookout for a collectible Lincoln that is both largely originally and decidedly unique, you'll have a hard time finding one cooler than this! A little bit of Muscle with the 5.0 and a whole lot of class! The body is solid, it does have some dings, some paint chips and a few areas where the black molding is pulling away from the car or removed. The chrome is super. There is one missing hubcap. Headlight cover on drivers side recently cracked. Turn signals work, lights work fine and heater does also.
From 1980 through 1983, Lincoln offered luxurious designer packages on the already extravagant 2 door Mark VI. They collaborated with 4 luxury fashion designers to create 4 of the most extravagant land-yachts in history. One of the 4 was French designer Givenchy, who styled celebrities such as: Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy and, more recently, Beyonce Knowles and Lady Gaga. The Givenchy edition was one of the most tasteful designs of the available packages and was only available for the 1981 and 1982 model years.
From Wikipedia:Lincoln offered designer editions for the Mark VI Coupe in 1980. These were theCartier,Pucci,Bill Blass, andGivenchyversions. Each designer edition carried exclusive exterior and interior color combinations, as well as more optional equipment over the standard model.
The designer editions were offered in 1981 for the coupe model only. These included Bill Blass, Cartier, Emilio Pucci, and Givenchy. In 1982 designer editions received a shuffle of sorts as the sedan was now available as an Emilio Pucci edition removing this package from the coupe. The remaining designers-Bill Blass and Givenchy-were available on the coupe; the Cartier edition was dropped from the Mark VI and moved to the Town Car.
For 1983, the Givenchy Edition was dropped and model line-up consisted of the standard coupe/sedan, the Signature Series coupe/sedan, the Bill Blass Edition coupe, and the Emilio Pucci Edition sedan. The Blass edition retained its "carriage roof" (convertible-look) and a unique exterior paint combination exclusive to the model in either vanilla/black/vanilla, or black/vanilla/black. The Emilio Pucci Edition shared this roof treatment for 1983 and had a unique exterior color combination of Dark Blue Cambria cloth top and Blue Flannel Mist body. The coupe version of the Emilio Pucci Designer edition was a mid-year introduction.
BODYWORK/TRIM
Early '80s metal featured some of the most impressive styling from the infamous Malaise Era. This coupe's classic combination of Black and Grey paint proves the perfect canvas for far-flung detail. The car's nontraditional, 2-tone pigment is decidedly stylish, proving that variety is the spice of life. With that paint comes vast sheet-metal, which, thanks to decades of great maintenance, appears straight, clean and almost as crisp as the day Motor City stamped it. That solid fuselage lines up beautifully, featuring wide doors, which open and close with ease. Spears of garnet and gold pin stripes stretch 18 feet down the sides of one of the longest profiles ever built. And overall, this Lincoln's looks defy the decades its VIN suggests.
Speaking of fit and finish, everything on this incredible Detroit creation is exceptionally well planned. And the car carries just the right amount of awesomeness to make an impassioned first impression. At the front of its massive body, a broad bumper frames folding, “Continental” branded headlights and a “MARK VI” branded grille that's centered on a sharp Lincoln gun sight. A characteristically linear profile complements intricate parking lamps, massive fender vents and original Ford cornering lamps with optional door guards, monochromatic body-sidemolding and polished rocker guards. A stainless-trimmed greenhouse floats an optional Carriage Roof above traditional door handles, classy mirrors and a power antenna. And out back, a second broad bumper frames spotless taillights and a fully dressed Continental deck lid.
ENGINE
Motivation for this luxury cruiser is provided by Ford's 5.0L V8. Believed to be completely all original, the massive engine bay is in great condition throughout, featuring correct components and factory markings. All major service items are functional, including factory air conditioning. The big mill still reflects splotches of bright Ford Blue engine skin. The car's Satin Black fenders are clean, its firewall straight, and all the places you'd expect rust to hide are resoundingly solid.
DRIVEtrain/SUSPENSION
Bottom-side, this Continental is equipped with Ford's reliable and sturdy 4-speed automatic transmission, which drives a 9-inch axle and highway-friendly gears. That power-train hangs in a heavy-duty suspension, with new shocks and rear airbags, which mixes newly-refreshed disc brakes with requisite power steering. Exhaust is handled by factory-spec pipes, which fame a Ford-branded muffler. Like the car's engine bay, that undercarriage is clean, honest and certainly not afraid of wet weather.
INTERIOR
Decked in cream leather, with a tear on drivers side, the Givenchy designed interior is just as cool as the rest of the car, wrapping minimal wear overall in exquisite luxury. Plush seats are nicely padded pieces that feel every bit as supple as they look. In front of those mitts, a wood-trimmed dash hangs an optional CB radio, an optional Quadrasonic AM/FM/cassette player and a cool digital information center amid factory climate control. At the sides of that ledge, leather-trimmed door panels frame an array of chrome power accessory switches. And in front of the driver, an attractive steering wheel highlights factory cruise control. This car has never seen snow, and has been garage kept all along.
Now that they're over the AACA's 25-year age limit, '80s luxury cars are becoming increasingly desired. This car offers full-size comfort and the smooth V8 that will flat blow the doors off any recent model car. There simply can't be many Malaise Era cruisers that are more interesting than this beast. And since the car is a designer Lincoln, it's certainly the cream of the crop. If you're looking for a cool classic that's also tastefully unique, this coupe will not disappoint!
